Remove the portafilter, screw, screen and diffuser in group, and if the water is still not coming out then it is blocked at the metering jet above the grouphead, you will see a small U shaped hose connected to a square box there. Metering jet is on the top of box under the fitting. Unplug machine turn of water. You will need a 14mm open end wrench in memory serves me right, it might be 17mm. Carefully remove U tube both ends. Then check the small orifice in the middle it might be covered by a small screen, try not to damage screen unless you have a replacement. If that is clear, we will look at the black box connected to the side of the square. That is your solenoid valve it might be blocked. Using 14mm wrench remove dischage, then nut, slide off black box. Notice where the silver long part connects to the brass, there is a big nut. You will need a crescent or a 24mm open end wrench. Remove slowly there is a plunger in there it only fits one way. Check the 2 holes in the brass piece make sure the middle is clear or turn water valve on and make sure water flies out of there, be careful it might have alot or pressure if not blocked.

Why does espresso maker OK light come on just 2 minuets after turning on?

Hi Rustfarmer,

Inside the machine is a high-pressure canister that is used to super heat a predefined amount of water. Once the water has come to a boil, and reached a predefined pressure (15bar) and temperature, the light comes on once the pressure switch is made.

If you have recently used the machine the canister will still be hot or if the water level is below the required minimum the time-to-ready will be greatly reduced causing the light to come on. However, if the light comes on and the water has not come to a boil, it could be due to a few reasons.

If the light comes on and temperature / pressure not reached, it could be due to

  • a faulty heating element or pressure switch,
  • a blocked (due to calcification) water tube, causing the canister to heat up and super heating what ever water is left causing the pressure switch to be made.
These machines are mostly mechanical and requires very little maintenance. The above are the most common problems experienced.

In the case of the pressure switch or heating element, I would suggest checking your warrantee and request a replacement/repair.

In the case of calcification, check the De' Longhi website for a cleaning kit to decalcify the system (Recommended method). If your machine is outside its warrantee period and you do not want to spend the bucks, you could use a home made recipe of white vinegar and water (Not recommended, it could wear down the rubber seals). Just make sure that you rinse the machine thoroughly before making the next cuppa.

Please let us know if you do not succeed and need further assistance.

Pressure gauge reading zero

Hello Mark
First of all turn on a hot water tap and keep it running whilst you check to see if your boiler is firing up, if it is not then try to restart it, you should hear the flame if its running, turn your tap off then just stand by the boiler for a few minutes to see if the pressure gauge starts to rise, if it doesn't rise you will never get any hot water, you will have to add some pressure to about 1 and a half on the dial, to do that is simply turn on the water valve in the bottom of your boiler and watch your pressure gauge rise to about 1 and a half then firmly turn it off again, it looks like a small tap like the one at the back of your washing machine pipe, it's ok you will hear the water rushing in, now with your gauge at about 1 and a half and your boiler running your water will get hot

I have boiler pressure and steam coming threw the wands but no water flowing through the brew heads. What could be the problem?

Either the solenoids are damaged or blocked, or the metering jet on the top of the group is blocked, or the blockage is at the flowmeters. Do you get a reading on the pump pressure gauge when the buttons are pressed?

I have a Powermax 155 boiler that keeps losing pressure. Most of the time, I can usually work around this by closing the tap in the boiler until the pressure rises, but it's not working this time. I...

I would first check the switch on the front to ensure it is set for CH & Water. Push bottom of the switch, check you have a pressure of 1 bar on the gauge to the left of the front panel. If not, top up until it gets to 1 bar. Ensure a demand is being called for (the timer is asking for heat) by pushing the CH button until the grey line is alongside 24 hr. then check if the central heating pump vibrating. If still not come back to me for more info

Expansion valve won't regulate pressure. how do I remove/clean/adjust this valve?

The only thing the expansion valve does is open when the pressure gets to 12 bars when the coffee boiler is heating or when you are backwashing the groups. If you need to adjust wait until red light comes on to say coffee boiler is heating then if gauge is going beyond 12 bars turn end of expansion valve to left to keep it at 12 or right to take it to 12 if it is lower, before doing this make sure pump is set to 9 bars.

Water dripping from my boiler/dispensing pressure gauge

If it is leaking from the gauge then have it replaced ASAP. It is easy to replace, just make sure machine is turned off and cooled and water is turned off.

Adding pressure gauge to Pavoni Europiccola

  1. in the boiler water is heated and presured up to 1.5 bar
  2. when water gets in lever and non return valve closes becouse you press the lever down, your energy is used to get high pressure, it should be frpm 7 up to 9 bar.
  3. SOLUTION==if you search way for modifying, you must consider that you must pump directly to group, not to boiler. in this case water will be cold (becouse comes from pump). you will need boiler in boiler to heat the water wich comes from pump before it gets to group. this is bit more complicated than you thought may bee but it is only solution.

Doesnt work when its warm

The pumps in these are low resolution pumps and don't seem to take a lot of stress. We ran the same machine with three groups 362 days a year. You probably need to replace the pump. You should watch your gauges and be pulling 9 - 10 bars when pulling a shot. The top side of your gauges is water pressure coming in. Sounds like a new pump. Good luck.
