Where is the model number on a vintage necchi sewing machine

Manufacturers put the numbers anywhere on the machine. Often, they can be found under the machine and may be a plate but often are numbers stamped into the metal. It may be on the metal base and could be hidden by the cabinet. However, if it is like some older Singers, there were no model numbers on the machines. The serial number actually signifies the model, ie N-6001-N-21000 is a Model 15.

You could also take the machine to a sewing repair shop. Some of the older shop technicians are probably more familiar with these machines.

How to thread the Nelco A2?

With your Nelco, be sure that you install the needle properly. Frequently, Nelco machines take the needle with the flat side facing toward the throat of the machine--not toward the read like most other machines. The upper thread will thread through the needle's eye from the left toward the right. They also are a left needle position machine--meaning, the standard position of the needle when sewing straight stitch is at the left side of the presser foot, not center like most other machines.

I need a diagram to re-assemble the shuttle race cover for a vintage Kenmore sewing machine, 148.273

Hi, if you go to sears parts direct and put your model #in you will get a diagram of the parts and how they go together. Looks like you have a real classic there. If, you cannot figure it out from the diagrams, try and find a reliable repairman, someone who has been in business for a few years. Good luck, Happy New Year

I was given for my birthday a very old Kenmore Zig Zag Deluxe (bought at a garage sale for $25) that was supposedly the first model that was both electric and foot pedal adaptable. The machine itself is...

Oh, fantastic!! These old sewing machines are just wonderful, and being all metal, will continue to work for years and years. Here are a couple of websites to check out:

(reviews of old machines by people who love them and use them)

(vintage, antique, and rare sewing machines)

http://www.tias.com/stores/relics/

http://www.treadleandcrank.com/

(the last one focuses on treadle and crank machines, but still is interesting.)

Happy sewing!
