Does the power on light show on either the OS monitor or the external monitor? If so, and no picture, it is likely to be the graphics card has failed. If in warranty return.

No display it is power is on

Hook up to external monitor .. Does the pre boot screen pop up (black and white writing at start ) ? If display runs on external monitor then your screen needs replacing usually or if you see a vague image on laptop screen then inverter or backlight is gone .. if no display on external and no pre boot screen probably the graphics chip on laptop has malfunctioned.

If only problem is the lcd screen, if you are sure, just buy a new inverter for lcd and install it, forums like these and some sites on net explain how it is to be done

No screen display

Your LCD inverter circuit or Backlight lamp may have died. The Backlight lamp is a CCl (Cold Cathode Lamp) closely resembling a thin fluorescent light bulb.
If you can replace this lamp, the typical cost for this component is $9-$15.

First thing to try is to plug in a standard (RGB analog) monitor into the system's 15-pin external monitor port to see if the system is booting to MSWindows (or not).
If the OS is failing to boot, at least the external monitor may allow you see what the ROM BIOS is doing, and possibly run BIOS-based system diagnostic software.
If the OS is booting properly, you can use the notebook PC with the external monitor (as a workaround), until you can repair the console screen, or replace the computer entirely.
If you are able to access the system via the external monitor, you may want to take the opportunity to backup any important data (iTune downloads/income tax forms/original manuscripts for novellas/MRI scans, etc.) on the Toshiba A135 to an external hard drive, large flash drive or CD-RW discs.

My display is damaged on my vaio laptop so I have to use an external monitor. How do I make the laptop go to the monitor BEFORE windows boots. My problem is I cannot make my computer boot up and I think I...

Outputting to an external display is only possible through Windows. As you stated External Display works with the computer, its sure that the issue is with the LCD. Performing a System Recovery is not going to help. The screen needs a replacement. To confirm this restart the VAIO and press and hold the F2 key and check if the computer boots to BIOS, if it boots to BIOS, then the screen is fine. Based on the information you have provided, I'm sure that the LCD will exhibit the same issue in BIOS and screen will stay blank.

As far as the recovery process is concerned, if you have not changed the preinstalled OS in the computer, you can still access the VAIO Recovery partition from Help and Support. You can also access the Recovery Center following the below link: C:\Progrm Files\Sony\Recovery Center.

To initiate a service process, you can visit the http// or can get in touch with your favorite technician.

Hope this helps.

How to force external monitor on lap top monitor broken boots on external monitor than switches right to broken monitor tryed f f3 f5 does not work

The issue is the OS boots but is not SET for the external monitor

You can try and use the FN and the monitor key but as a perm thing you cannot do this, just cannot be done its boots on the port for the primary display and that is the way it was built. Now if the F# or F% does not work then the operating system is not set up for the external monitor with the display broken i do not see a solution for this one as a tech,

thanks for the question tho but i want to remain honest and say its not possiable.

please do rate my answer before you leave thanks.

Screen goes blank after afew second on ac inly

Try booting to the Safe Mode (F8 at boot) see if you get any further. Also, does the system complete boot (DO you hear windows sounds?) or is the system just hanging after the Splash screen (You can also try an external monitor and press Fn+F8 to enable the external display) If you can get video externally, then is it likely a LCD or video card failure. If you can't boot to the safe mode and you do not hear the Windows Welcome sound that normally plays at the desktop, then the system is not booting and you have either a hard drive failure and/or an operating system failure.
See if you can boot to the BIOS (F2 at boot), then reload the default settings and reboot.

If you suspect the OS is a problem, boot to the XP CD, then run CHKDSK /R and see if that helps
You can also run system Diagnostics by pressing Fn+the Power button

It appears to be booting but only displays awhite colour

Try to attach an external monitor to see if it is really booting up. And if it does boot up with the external monitor, problem is with the lcd... you may want to reseat the lcd cables inside. And if all else fails run diagnostics to see if lcd needs to be replaced. Could also be a software or OS issue that is why booting it up on an external monitor will help isolate the issue to check if there's an error message that will come up.

Thanks and good luck! =)

Cannot display anything at all, sounds it is working but, cannot dispaly boot screen and rest???

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Latitude D820. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor has no display, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.

Dell Inspiron 6000 monitor display problem

Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
