AR1220-S the two layer ports, can divide 8 VLAN, one port for a VLAN, the AR2204 can not divede VLAN. Huawei AR1200 Series routers are designed to provide secure and scalable unified voice and data communications for small enterprises or large enterprise branch offices. It supports wired and wireless access modes, including E1/T1, xDSL, xPON, WiFi, 3G, and more.

No. You would need a switch, not a router.

How to enable two xDSL ports of the MA5600 to communicate with each other?

Two xDSL ports of the Huawei MA5600 communicate with each other through service ports.
If the two Huawei xDSL ports are on different boards, establish a standard VLAN, create one service port for each Huawei xDSL port, and then add the created two service ports to the established standard VLAN.
The service ports can be added to the standard VLAN only when the attribute of the VLAN is QinQ.
If the two xDSL ports are on the same board, establish a super VLAN, create one service port for each Huawei xDSL port, and then add the created two service ports to the sub VLAN of the established super VLAN.

How Do I Restore the Default VLAN Configuration of an Interface?

We can take S5700-28P-PWR-LI-AC as example.

The default VLAN configuration of an interface involves the default VLAN of the interface and the VLAN that the interface joins. By default, the default VLAN configuration of an interface is as follows:
Access: The default VLAN is VLAN 1, and an access interface joins VLAN 1 in untagged mode.
Trunk: The default VLAN is VLAN 1, and a trunk interface joins VLAN 1 to VLAN 4094 in tagged mode. That is, a trunk interface allows all VLANs.
Hybrid: The default VLAN is VLAN 1, and a hybrid interface joins VLAN 1 in untagged mode.
Dot1q-tunnel: The default VLAN is VLAN 1, and an dot1q-tunnel interface joins VLAN .1
Negotiation-auto or Negotiation-desirable: If the interface is negotiated as an access interface, the default VLAN configuration of the interface is the same as that of the access interface. If the interface is negotiated as a trunk interface, the default VLAN is VLAN 1 and the interface joins VLANs 1 to 4094 in tagged mode. That is, the interface allows all VLANs.
Run the display this include-default ' include link-type command in the interface view to check the link type of the interface, and then perform one of the following configurations to restore the default configuration of the interface.
Restore the default VLAN configuration of an access or dot1q-tunnel interface.
<HUAWEI> system-view
[HUAWEI] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/1
[HUAWEI-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] undo port default vlan

Difference between VLANs and subnetting?

VLAN- Essentially, you are separating a network into different broadcast domains with a switch by moving some ports on a switch into a separate VLAN other than the default, 1. Switch ports in VLAN X will communicate with any other ports on the network also in VLAN X, but not any other VLAN, unless you so configure it that way.

Subnetting- Subnetting is the breaking up of a chunk of IP addresses into different networks. These subnetworks are generally assigned to each LAN on that network, which all connect to a router, which may connect to the cloud through the ISP, or to another router on the network, or separate network. The addresses on that subnet are assigned to clients on the LAN the subnet is assigned to.

I am trying to change the cfe on my netgear wgr614 V6 tdc but the jtag doesn't see it. The ends I am trying to get to is putting dd-wrt on it. Any ideas?

Once you've got a serial console attached you can access the CFE which is a bit like the bios of the WGT634U. Start up minicom and apply power to the router while holding Control C. You should see something like the following:

CFE version 1.0.34 for BCM95365R (32bit,SP,LE)
Build Date: Tue Feb 24 03:21:41 CST 2004 (root@jackylinux)
Copyright (C) 2000,2001,2002 Broadcom Corporation.

Add MAC client version(DNI).
Initializing Arena.
Initializing Devices.
et0: Broadcom BCM47xx 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller
CPU type 0x29007: 200MHz
Total memory: 0x2000000 bytes (32MB)

Total memory used by CFE: 0x81BB1280 - 0x82000000 (4517248)
Initialized Data: 0x81BB1280 - 0x81BB3E90 (11280)
BSS Area: 0x81BB3E90 - 0x81BB45D0 (1856)
Local Heap: 0x81BB45D0 - 0x81FB45D0 (4194304)
Stack Area: 0x81FB45D0 - 0x81FB65D0 (8192)
Text (code) segment: 0x81FB65E0 - 0x81FFFFB0 (301520)
Boot area (physical): 0x01B70000 - 0x01BB0000
Relocation Factor: I:E23B65E0 - D:01BB0280

configure vlans
*********************** VLAN Driver initial ********************
Process LAN port(2-5) vlan Architecture...
SUCCESS: trying to create VLAN 0 for switch
SUCCESS: trying to add LAN port

Process WAN port(2-5) vlan Architecture...
SUCCESS: trying to create VLAN 0 for switch
SUCCESS: trying to add WAN port
SUCCESS: enable ports success
configure vlans...done
Automatic startup canceled via Ctrl-C
Now you can get a listing of the available commands by typing "help". If you want to boot a kernel from a tftp server do the following:

CFE> ifconfig eth0 -addr= -mask=;
CFE> boot -z -elf -tftp
Or you can automate the process by setting STARTUP using:

CFE> setenv -p STARTUP "ifconfig eth0 -addr= -mask=;boot -z -elf -tftp;boot -elf flash0.os:"
The router will now try and retrieve a kernel image called vmlinux.gz using tftp from If this fails it will go ahead and boot the kernel on the flash. The is quite handy as in conjuction with a NFS root, it means you can do all your development without modifing the original firmware.

Sir I have 4200 series 26 ports Switch i want to Configure intra VLAN But I am Getting a problem to Configure that switch . After Cnfigure VLAN on Consol prompt. I am not accessing to my Server & WAN...

If you are creating only Layer 2 VLANs on the switch , you wont be able to ping the servers and Routers as they are in default VLAN1.
you can do the below steps
1. Create sub interfaces on the router LAN interface
2. Provide a new ip range to the new sub interface
3. Make the switch port connecting router as trunk, so that it will carry both the VLAN info
4. on your Labtop/PC give the IP address in the newly defined range
5. Make your switch port to be in the new VLAN

This will work , if you wont be able to configure the above settings, let me know i will give you the detailed config

I need to use the switch ports (WIC-4ESW) with my 1711 router it has 1 real lrouted Fast Ethernet and a 4 port 10/100 switch tht is only L@, someone how i have to make VLANS or virtual interfaces, if...

to make a VLAN you would need to log on to the router, get to config mode, and then type vlan [vlan number] name [text name for vlan] and press enter. This creates the vlan in the vlan database (vlan.dat in flash).

Once you have done this, create the actual vlan interface by typing int vlan x and pressing enter, and then configure this like a normal interface with an ip address, etc (don't forget to no shut the interface!).

You can then either assign the vlan to the interface by going to the interface with int [interface name and number] and pressing enter, then use the switchport mode access command to set it to an access port, and then switchport access vlan x to set the access to the relevant vlan.

Of course, substitute the x's in my examples for the relevant vlan numbers.

Hope that this is of some help.

A VLAN is a Virtual LAN. It allows the same physical piece of equipment to manage traffic for two separate networks but still block the movement of data between them as if they were not on the same. Picture it like partitioning a hard drive, but your dividing the ports on your switch. As for why, there are a couple reasons. (1) Reducing LAN traffic, every packet sent by a computer has to cycle through every manchine on the LAN, VLAN's limit the number of machines a packet routes through, (2) Security, it also allows you to limit data to a subset of devices or computers. (3) and it allows you to organize your machine on a large LAN by address.

Here are case examples:

1) I want to setup quality of service making sure that servers or phone systems are allotted a certain amount of priority at all times. For example, you wouldn't want your phones to crack and pop because Joe in accounting decided to stream the latest episode of CSI Miami.
2) I want to organize the machines in my organization for security purposes breaking apart different physical networks for each department, building, etc. If you have multinational company running on the same LAN, you don't want everyone pulling from a single pool of addresses.
3) I have a limited amount of equiment so purchase on large switch rather then several smaller ones and divide the ports into specified port groups. I can then set different port restrictions, policies, and quality of service for each group...say an IP phone system, a DMZ, a lab, and management PC's.

The trunk port of the switch is meant for cascading the switch i.e. you can connect another switch to that port for adding more computers.

For connecting to a multihomed PC (with 2 lan cards) Please type in static ip address to the lan card that is connecting to the switch and alos add static ip adds to all the other computers taht are to be connected for sharing. Then share the internet connection through the other lan card.

Please write to for more details
