SOURCE: how do i know if my amp is blown

Hey Yoo,

Go to Radio shack and get you an adapter that will take an earphone jack and convert it to RCA male.  You use this to simulate the signal coming from the reciever.  Hook up to a Cd player or Walkman, anything with an earphone output jack. Test that the device actually puts out music or anything worth listening to.  Connect the device to the input of your amp, with the car running, and the reciever turned on.. This will tell yo if the signal is getting from the reciever to the amp. You may not be getting signal from the head unit.

If you still get no sound to the woofers, dsisconnect the woofers and try a different speaker.  If that speaker dont work,  Change setting and switches., and if you still get no sound, then your amp is toast.

SOURCE: amplifier turns on but not the subwoofer?

Hello thedj3214,

You can find the color codes for a 1999 Buick Regal here. There is no dedicated amp remote wire. Neither is there a power antenna wire.

You could use the 12V "switched lead (yellow) from the radio or any switched 12V lead directly from the vehicle fuse box. I'd wire it through a dash mounted toggle switch so as to be able to turn the amp on and off manually.

The Sony 2150GSX is a 2-channel amp with the speaker terminals on either side. You do not want to ground the subwoofer itself, only the ground terminal should be connected to bare metal on the vehicle chassis or body as close to the amp as possible. The ground wire does not need to be run to the negative battery terminal.

A ground on one of the speaker leads will probably cause the amp not to power up. A ground on a speaker wire usually activates the amps protection circuit, causing it to not operate until the fault is corrected.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: power protector comes on as soon as the amp turns

YOU HAVE TOTALLY SIMULATED A BENCHED CONDITION WHICH IS ALREADY THE FIRST STEP IN DETERMINING THAT THE AMPLIFIER ITSELF IS AT FAULT AND WILL NEED TO BE SERVICED. MAKE SURE THAT THE RCA INPUTS AND SPEAKERS ARE NOT CONNECTED, AS I BELIEVE YOU DESCRIBED. IF THEY ARE, THEN DISCONNECT THEM AS THE RCA'S WILL PROVIDE A SECONDARY GROUND. IF THIS WERE THE CASE, AT THAT POINT YOU WOULD WANT TO CHECK THE POWER GROUND. I BELIEVE YOU STATED THAT THEY WERE IN FACT DISCONNECTED THOUGH. IF YOU HAVE A VOLTMETER, SIMPLY TAKE A MEASUREMENT AT THE AMPLIFIER POWER TERMINALS AND IF YOU INDEED SEE THE 12 VOLTS, THEN NO DOUBT, YOUR AMPLIFIER WILL NEED TO BE SERVICED. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE....V

My 3 arc fault breakers run hot and draw about a third of an amp from the ground bar wire each, 24/7. Is this possibly normal?

How did check amps. I would check the amps on the circuit itself. Might be drawing close to max. thats why it's hotter. breaker should have no more than 80%. Of an amp draw on the circuit

Installing arc fault interrupter with ground fault

If you meant arch fault with ground fault then no, the two types interfere with each other and trip the breaker as one senses an arch and the other grounding.
If you meant ground fault breaker with a GFCI. receptacle, you only need one of the two, either GFCI. breaker or receptacle.

and for circuits, you can put up to 12 devices (i.e receptacle, light)assuming they consume 1 amp each. Anything over 12 amps or 80% of the rating on the breaker, it will trip/reset.
Or if your talking about wires on a breaker then no more than 2 wires recommended. Try adding a junction box outside the panel if your trying to add other branch circuits or tap off of a receptacle.

How do u change a house hold light switch on a wall

Turn off power.
Unscrew cover plate.
Unscrew both screws holding switch into wall box.
Pull switch outward to stretch wires.
Take photos so you can reconstruct wiring if necessary.
Note color of each screw.
Green is for ground wire.
There are many different kinds of switches.
Single pole switch has two wires plus ground, and both screws will be same brass color, plus green ground screw.
3-way switch has 3 wires plus ground, and one screw will be different color than other two screws, plus green ground screw.
Remove wires from switch.
If wires are attached into holes on back of switch, notice there is small slot next to each hole.
Insert small screwdriver or metal nail file into slot while pulling on wire. This takes 3 hands, and then wire will come out of hole.
Replace each wire onto new switch, matching the old switch, tighten screws very tight, and then put switch back into box.
When pushing wires back into box, you want to keep the wires folded behind the switch as much as possible.
Wires are not harmed when scrunched back into box.
Put switch cover over switch so no possible spark can exit box.
Turn power ON, and try the switch.

Your switch has 2 wires, and 2 brass screws, and new switch will have same.
Connect either wire to new switch.
Connect bare ground wire to green screw.
Turn power off, remove screws that hold switch into box, pull out switch, take photo of wiring, install new switch.
If wires are pushed into back of switch, then use small screwdriver and push into slot to release wire.

Lack of power, or bad amp?

Check your ground. Its just as important as the power supply. Take off any paint, good ground means good power, check the fuse on the amp and any connctions to the battery other than that i would exchange it

My amps not working anymore.

first check your ground wire then you power wire connections .. check the fuse to see if its making connections on both ends of the wires..

i think the flickering is the result of a weak or bad connection in the power ground or acc wire "normaly blue"
your amp has no sound because the amp has to charge before it can out put at a higher amperage

hope this helps

Amp arc

What you need to do is first ground your amplifier securely then make sure all connections are fastened. don't remove the speaker connection and listen for sound. If there is no sound power down the unit, and send it to a repair shop because it sound like you may have damaged some components in the unit. But in order to come to this point you have to make sure you ground the unit properly and then make sure all of your connections are secure. Contact me once this is done and you are ready to do some tests.
