When I turn my brand new air purifier on on it smells like its burning or going to catch on fire is it supposed to?

That unit is a very heavy duty machine that uses ionization to clean air. There is a high voltage power supply that is used to generate ions. The unit can release ozone and that substance has a definite smell to it. If you have ever been near a copy machine or an electric motor that sparks, you would smell ozone. The concern is whether or not it is ozone. Ozone is regulated by the manufacturers to be held at a permissible level because at high concentrations it is an irritant and can cause respiratory issues by itself. The power unit for that air cleaner is on the top near the back and you can run the machine for a while to see if that area gets hot. That would be a bad sign. All the documentation is here: But if you don't trust the unit, take it or send it back.

Does not produce ozone, I have replaced the fuse, it has been cleaned and the amber light is not on.

it's possible that the ozone generator inside has gone bad. The only way to really know is to remove it from the unit and then test it with a power supply w/correct voltage of coarse. You will smell the ozone immediately if it works upon testing. (clean fresh smell) If it does need replaced, it's an easy fix for anyone with electronics knowledge. You will need to match up the numbers to get the correct replacement. Many are available on Ebay. Always disconnect the power to the unit before taking it apart. Hope this helps, Dave

I have a Flair air puifier but no ozone smell. I replaced the high voltage transformer( it was a 3500 watt instead of a 5000 watt transformer) The red light now flickers but no ozone smell . It has ne

Your ozone generator may have gone bad. It's the small black rectangular looking apparatus located near the bottom of the unit. It usually has a zip tie holding it to the circuit board. You will have to take the Flair out of it's case to see it. Make sure it's unplugged and remove the bolt from the bottom of the unit. You can then slide the framework out of the casing. It's also possible that it's time to replace your Ceramic Ozone Plates. They have a life expectancy of 2 to 4 years. The Flair has two of them that slide into slots in the rear of the unit. You can see them when you remove the washable filter. All items can be purchased on Ebay. DM

I have an Ecoquest Air Purifier....I have had it for about three has always run beautifully, although it has not had much use.... today i put it on Sanitize and it simply isn't doing it....It...

Possibly the 4" white plate with the screen center is not inserted correctly, or it may need to be cleaned or replaced. Open the back of the machine and remove the plate. Clean it with a solution of equal parts ammonia/warm water. Scrub gently with a toothbrush or soft veggie brush, rinse well, blow-dry or air-dry. DO NOT use any kind of drying cloth or paper, and avoid touching the screen portion with fingers.
When the plate is dry, inspect it for any burned sections, broken wires, cracks, or other imperfections. If anything appears broken, the plate must be replaced. (Call Vollara, the new name for EcoQuest at 1-800-989-2299 to order. Use #16618 if you need a referral number.)
When you reinsert the plate, make sure the plate is inserted with both the top and bottom of the plate in the "tracks." Also make sure that the two metal contact fingers are pressing firmly on the screen portion of the plate. Look carefully to see if you can detect any loose wires, connections, or corroded components that may be shorting out or broken.
When you power on the machine, if the contact points are receiving power and if the plate is clean and unbroken, you should be able to smell the purifier both on "sanitize" and with the "purifier on" settings. Remember, the air passes in a V from the front of the machine, so if you're standing close, front and center, you may not smell the purifier. High humidity also masks the ozone smell. Also, if the UV/cell is on, you're still getting powerful purification.
Hope this helps.

I no longer smell the ozone smell that i used too.

You probably have a burned out high voltage transformer. That's what produces the ozone. Helpful hint...........the high voltage transformer is also the one used in bug zappers.
