Question about Mackie Mcu Pro

Open Question

Mackie MCU Pro Power Supply PCB to MIDI PCB 16PIN ribbon cable connector has changed

The power supply on my Mackie MCU Pro failed and the unit will not initialize. Using the Mackie MCU Extender's power supply did allow the MCU Pro to power on but it will not initialize (all lights turn on but faders don't calibrate). After opening the unit, there appears to have been a small electrical fire on the power supply PCB. I ordered a replacement power supply PCB but the connector for the ribbon cable between it and the MIDI PCB is a different size but same 16PIN configuration. The old connector is about 1" wide and colored black while the new connector is about 3/4" wide and colored white. Can anyone tell me what kind of connectors these are and if I can find an adapter? If no adapter is available, can I find a replacement connector and re-wire the ribbon cable to make my own adapter?

I have a dell e198fp monitor con nected to a dell latitude d400. Got monitor from daughter who said monitor was working then went black and stayed same. I get a blinking green power button with a black...

I suspect you will find that there are bad capacitors on the power supply board. If you aren't handy with a soldering iron, however, I would not recommend this repair. It can be easy to permanently damage things. If you aren't afraid of that, however, give it a try.

There are two that I have found that typically fail (680 microfarad, 16 volt). They usually "bulge" on top after failing. I have found that the replacement value doesn't seem to be too critical. I wish I had written down the actual designators for these caps (maybe next time I repair one of these monitors).

WARNING! DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE DISASSEMBLING THE MONITOR AND DO NOT RECONNECT POWER UNTIL ALL SHIELDING IS REINSTALLED!!! DANGEROUS LINE VOLTAGE WILL BE EXPOSED!!!

Once you get the bezel apart and get down to the metal shielding, slide the shield on the right hand side to remove (arrows pointing to each other). There will be four connectors underneath this shield to power the backlight. Disconnect these four connectors, paying close attention to where they were connected.

Disconnect the small ribbon cable on the other side connecting to the front panel controls...There is a small black tab that will flip up to allow removal of the ribbon cable. CAUTION! THESE CABLES ARE DELICATE...DAMAGING THE CABLE OR THE CONNECTOR WILL DESTROY YOUR MONITOR.

There are four screws holding the power supply section to the LCD itself (two on each side). Once you remove these screws the rear shield (and power supply section) will start to separate from the LCD. There is another ribbon cable between the power supply section and the LCD panel...AGAIN...DO NOT DAMAGE THIS CABLE OR CONNECTOR! Squeeze the two black tabs on either side of this connector to remove.

You should now have the power supply board exposed. Remove the screws securing the power supply board to the shield. You will need to disconnect the connector attaching the AC power inlet to the board in order to access the top side...

The failed capacitors should be readily apparent. Replace them, re-assemble and test.

That's it

I'm attempting to connect my new axiom pro 61 via Midi cables to my mbox2. To do this I understand I must rely on the power supply rather than USB. When plugging the axiom in to the wall it will not turn...

The AXIOM SHOULD turn on with just the wall wart adapter so you HAVE A PROBLEM.

First thing is to check the adapter that it is the correct one. It should be a 12 VDC 1 amp unit with positive center pin output.

Common adapters for pedals WILL NOT WORK.

Assuming you have the correct adapter, VERIFY the connector is plugged fully in the AXIOM.

Do I need to upgrade my Mackie or Logic Control?
A.
Perhaps, but perhaps not. Really, it all boils down to what you are doing or plan to do with your Mackie Control or Logic Control. First, determine the Firmware Version of each of your units (main units AND extenders) - simply watch the display when you power up.

If you have a version 1.x Mackie or Logic Control (including extenders), there is a free MIDI download which will allow you to control all of the Mackie Control supporting DAWs AND Emagic Logic Audio.

If you have a version 1.x Mackie or Logic Control (including extenders) and wish to control Pro Tools via Mackie Control Universal's built-in HUI mode - you'll need to obtain a Mackie Control Universal Upgrade Kit.

If you have a version 2.0 Mackie Control or extender, we have a free MIDI download which will allow you to control all of the Mackie Control supporting DAWs, Emagic Logic Audio and Pro Tools.
If you have version 2.1.1 - you're already up to date.

Free for all existing Mackie Control, Logic Control, and MC or LC Extender owners, this download will update your control surface to have both Mackie Control and Emagic Logic Audio functionality. HUI support for Pro Tools is not included in this download. Instructions for updating your unit(s) are included as a Read Me file in the downloadable zip archive. 1. If you own a Mackie Control or XT with firmware version 1.x and you want to add Logic Control Functionality, download this free MIDI upgrade.
Mackie Control v1.2 (ZIP 13KB)

This upgrade is for those Mackie Control, Logic Control, and MC or LC Extender owners who want to update their control surface to the full three-mode Mackie Control Universal - getting HUI mode for Pro Tools along with the Mackie Control and Logic Control modes. 1. If you own a Mackie Control with firmware version 2.x and you want get all three modes: Logic Control Functionality, Mackie Control Functionality, and HUI Mode for controlling Pro Tools, download this free MIDI upgrade. Instructions for updating your unit(s) are included as a PDF file in the downloadable zip archive.
Mackie Control Universal v2.1.2 (ZIP 21 KB)
Note: the 2.1.2 firmware upgrade is new as of August 20, 2004.
  • Fixes Bug in Logic Control mode that caused lock-out of control surface on termination of software application
How do I upgrade my Mackie Control, Logic Control or Extender?
A. First, make sure that you DO need to upgrade (refer to the previous FAQ). Once you've determined that you need to upgrade your unit, you'll need to reserve an upgrade kit. Reserve your kit here.

Because there is limited supply of the upgrade kits, we are taking reservations. Once your upgrade kit becomes available, we will send you an email with instructions on how to obtain your kit. You will have 72 hours to respond before we release your kit to the next person in line.

The Mackie Control Universal Upgrade Kit includes a new processor chip, a Pro Tools Lexan overlay and installation instructions. You can either perform the upgrade yourself, or have a professional from the Mackie Service department perform the upgrade for you. You can also choose to have a third-party service technician perform the upgrade for you at your own risk.
Reserve your kit here.

I HAVE A CANON IR 3300 MACHINE I HAVE ERROR E00000-000

WHAT: Either the main thermistor doesn't attain 30?C 1 second after the power switch is activated or it doesn't attain 70?C 2 seconds thereafter.

WHY: It has a faulty fixing film unit, lack of connectivity with the main thermistor, lack of connectivity with the fixing heater, a faulty main power supply PCB, or the DC controller PCB is faulty.

NOTE: You can reset the error by performing the following in service mode: COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR.

CONNECTOR FIX: Make sure that the connector of the fixing assembly is seated.
A. main power supply PCB (J8) relay connector heater
B. DC controller PCB (J320) relay connector thermistor

FIXING FILM UNIT (THERMISTOR) FIX: With a multimeter, check the interval between pin 1 & pin 2 & between pin 3 & pin 4 of the connector (4-pin) of the thermistor for electrical continuity. A result of ?? means that the circuit is open (lack of connectivity). Resolve this by replacing the fixing film unit.

MAIN POWER SUPPLY PCB, DC CONTROLLER PCB FIX: Press the Start key. If the drive voltage of the heater is supplied by the connector J8 of the main power supply PCB, then the main power supply PCB should be replaced. If not, then the thermistor control mechanism is faulty & the DC controller PCB should be replaced. Use the following to ascertain this:
Main heater: between J8-1 (FSR1) & J8-5 (FSR COM)
Sub heater: between J8-3 (FSR2) & J8-5 (FSR COM)

Nad c350 no power at all

Solution if all fuses checked out OK and +/-40V are present on main PCB DC connector from power supply:
Check for +37V and -37V on small sub-power supply PCB - mounted vertically on the main power supply PCB. (next to ribbon cable connector is a layout with voltages.) If the +/-37V are missing check (replace) C501 (0.1uF) on the small power supply PCB for leakage, but also check (replace) R401 (2R2) and R402 (2R2) on the main power supply PCB. Both resistors are fuse-resistors and will have gone open circuit when C501 has gone leaky.

Check fuses mounted near transformer . If blown check output transistor. Also check transistor transistors on small heat sink . they will cause fuse to blow.
