I have the same problem and Canon was no help. I think it is a manufacturer defect and it should have been part of the recalled camcorders.

I have a Canon ZR60 DV Digital Camcorder and I have the same problem. The LCD screen goes black while recording, but the record light stays on. In VCR mode, there is sound but no video.

I have that same problem and it pisses me off. Sometimes after fiddling with stuff I can get it to work for an hour or two, but then it just goes back to the way it was and if I do the same thing to try and fix it as I did the first time, nothing happens. >:(

Smash your camera with a baseball bat and buy a new one because the company is designed by a jerkface who likes to rip people off.

I'm using a coax cable from symphonic vr-701 to tv and trying to record. it acts like it is recording but just shows snowy image on playback

Coax from wall to coax in on VCR and Vcr Coax out to in on set.

Whatever channel vcr is on this way it will record and pass to set.

Check first you have playback from VCR to TV alone, could have dirty or blocked video heads which in record will just record no watchable picture. Hookup or blocked video heads are most likely.

Toshiba VCR. It records OK but playback is black, white shaky

What do you mean by "records OK"? It sounds to me like you are not getting a signal to record. I had this problem before, as well. There are two things I recommend you try. The first is that (if you are trying to record over-the-air tv, you will need a digital television converter box connected directly to the vcr. If you already have one and are sure that it is connected correctly, you may also try an RF modulator. When I got my new vcr, it wouldn't work at first. I eventually found out that I would need an RF modulator in order for it to work on my tv. I hope these suggestions help. Good luck! Sincerely, Der Strom

Black screen in REC mode, bars across the screen in Playback mode

My advice is that you should by a DV cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls set the Samsung LCD TV to the Source selection as if watching a playback evgen if you are going to do a recording.

If that does not work, pls postback manner of connection (cabling) from Cox digital cable system to Philips DVD/VCR to Samsung LCD TV LN-T3253HX/XAA .

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

VCR Play Back is OK, but Recording produces Blue Screen on playback

If the heads are TOO dirty, a head cleaner will not help. If you are cinfident enough to open up the recorder, then they can be cleaned manually.

Disconnect the VCR from the mains.

Remove the screews from the side and back (if applicable) of the lid.

Remove the lid.

Look at the large drum (set at a slight angle) If you gently rotate the drum you will see 2 or 4 small sensors set into the drum.

Tear of a clean piece of A4 paper about 1inch square.

Hold between thumb and first finger and rub the centre of the paper against each sensor in turn. Make sure the edge of the paper does not catch the sensor.

After each sensor check the paper for dirt (black marks) and change paper if need be.

Try a recording / playback.

Repeat if necessary.
