Hoover spirit 900 canister wont turn on?

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If the vacuum cleaner motor does not run the motor itself might be burned out. Check the power switch first to be sure the motor can get power. Then, be sure the motor shaft can turn freely, that nothing is obstructing it. If the motor can turn freely and is getting power but still won't run it will need to be replaced
If the vacuum cleaner motor doesn't run the on - off switch might be turned off or defective. Test the switch with an Ohm meter or continuity checker.

Maybe open the motor casing and look for an overheat reset button. If it doesn't have one, check for voltage at the wires coming directly out of the motor. If it has power there and no reset switch, then the motor needs replaced or rebuilt.

Model 16n5 has no suction

check the passages for obstructions. (coat hanger works nicely). if the motor is running, you should have suction. if you don't, something is blocking air flow.

Indicator light comes on but sweeper doesn't run.

it sounds like the motor is dead. The Light and the motor are wired differently so it is quite possible that the motor is dead and the light still works.

My phv1800 18 volt hand vac's battery seems to be running down. is there any way to revive it? if not; can i purchase a new battery to replace it? thank you!

If you are handy with a soldering iron, and don't mind spending a few hours building a new battery pack using 1.2 volt "sub c" cells, you can disassemble the PHV1800, and rebuild the pack yourself. I just did it tonight, and the vacuum works like new.

However, I'm not going to do this again. The PHV1800 doesn't use a single battery pack, but 2 packs that have to be assembled with very little room for error. You can purchase a combination battery pack/motor assembly for $75 (US currency, price currect as of 10/2011), unscrew the screws that hold the vacuum together, and replace the battery/motor unit as one.
