This depends on your ISP service provider and the package you have.
Their max rating is never what you will achieve in the real world.
However you can get a good idea with this popular speedtest:
Speedtest net by Ookla The Global Broadband Speed Test

Your results will vary with each test. Many factors are involved to gauge the speed your connection can achieve. Number of hops, traffic, weather and of course your PC. Try not to have anything else running/down loading while doing this test. This will give you a better idea of the optimum download and upload speeds of your system and isp provided.
Good luck hope this helps!

I bought a Belkin 'Play' router to provide wireless internet connectivity from my CLEAR modem. I can't get the router to speedtest at half the speed as being directly connected (via ethernet cable) to the...

Use an Ethernet cable from the CLEAR modem into the WAN (or 'Internet') port on the Belkin.
Take a close look at the 8 coloured wires at each end of the Ethernet cable.
The 8 wires must be coloured in the _same_ order at both ends.

Be sure that you have a 'CAT-5' or 'CAT-5E' cable, not a 'CAT-3' cable, which is much slower, over long distances.

Use another Ethernet cable from one of the (three? four?) 'LAN' ports on the Belkin to the network-port on your computer. Again, check that you have a "straight-through" cable, not a "cross-over" cable.

Turn the CLEAR modem off.
Turn the Belkin off.
Turn your computer off.

Turn the CLEAR modem on, and wait until its lamps settle-down to a consistent pattern.

Turn the Belkin on, and wait until its lamps settle-down to a consistent pattern.

Turn your computer on, and let it boot.

You now should have Internet access.

Note that the router "dynamically" shares the Internet connection.
If there are 4 'LAN' ports, then each of the LAN ports gets as much speed as it needs;
you do not have a 25/25/25/25 split, unlike cutting-up an apple-pie to feed 4 people.

Run a "speed-test" on your computer, and you should be getting as much speed as you are paying for. Having the Belkin in the "middle" of your network should *NOT* slow-down the speed-test at all.

Do you have a diagram on how to hook up the router to the Desktop Computer. Computer is ready for the router but not sure how to hook it up. I presently have internet on my existing computer and am...

Hi, you can hook the router to your computer using a standard Ethernet cable (the one with connectors that look similar to phone jack connectors, but a little wider). You should have an Ethernet port on the back of your computer, and you can connect the cable from there to the Ethernet LAN port on the router.

Number of all ports available: Six USB; Ethernet, two serial, parallel and Video.
One x8 high-speed PCI-E adapter slot offers investment protection by supporting high-performance adapters, such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand cards, none of which will run in older conventional PCI slots.
The x3200 M2 includes one integrated Broadcom 5722 Gigabit Ethernet controller for up to 10X higher maximum throughput than a 10/100 Ethernet controller. In addition, the 5722 supports IPMI-over-LAN.

Moderm speed

Your question is garbled but I'll try to explain some of it.

Your ethernet LAN jack on your computer is probably 100mbps and the ethernet LAN jack on the modem is also 100mbps, connect them together and it will tell you that it is connected at 100mbps because they are both working at the same speed.

As for the other connections, you are mixing usb and ethernet up so much that I can not tell from what you are connecting together.

Ethernet speed changes from normal to zero

If you have high speed internet go to your ISP webpage and do a speed test. If You are paying for say like 10 MEGS and are only pulling 1.2 Megs. It probably is your modem. Your speed will slow down to approx 7.5 behind a router. Also Your ethernet cable might need replacing. might also might try resetting your router. disconnect all power even the cable comming in and reset everything. Hope that helps.

Do I have an ethernet card?

Yes, Intel Pro/1000 is gigabit ethernet, which will do 100Mbps and 10Mbps too.
This will be compatable with your broadband requirements.
