Your bike apparently has a safety mechanism where the engine shuts off while in gear, if the side stand is extended. The wire you fixed may not have been fixed properly. There is a switch at the end of that wire which senses the kick stand position. See if that switch is working properly. You can bypass the switch by shorting the wire, but remember it's a safety mechanism and it's better to keep it fixed.

I have a 2004 honda shadow aero. When I was riding lasst weekend the bike shut off like it ran out of gas. It would turn back on, but when I gave it throtle it would die. I let it sit for a few hours and...

Sounds like the battery is dying. A low battery and/or bad stator or bad regulator will cause the battery to get low on voltage. Although enough to start the bike and idle, it will loose power to the coils under heavy throttle.

Fzr 1000 engine sat then locked up

Hi, Brian ouch!!!!! this is what can happen if you don't perform winterization maintenance before you store your bike for the winter and by the way, rust never sleeps and radiator coolant loves to spend the winter in your cylinders if there is a welcome mat, ok now for some help, remove the spark plugs and squirt "Marvel Mystery Oil" down each cylinder 1 oz. per cylinder should do then with bike sitting straight up let it stay in there for 24 hours then put it in 1st gear and rock the bike back and forth until it breaks free, if it doesn't let it sit for another 24 hours and repeat the process, if it still won't break loose take it to a shop they will have more tricks to employ if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 3 years or older when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

Brother mfc 7420 software won't install

First unplug the printer from the computer. Go into the device manager, under system in the control panel. You should see some devices listed as unknown device or it may have the printer name with a yellow exclamation mark by the name. Delete any of these that you see. Leave the printer unplugged and restart the computer. When it boots up reinstall the printer software and don't connect the printer until the software says to. It should go right through the install now.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

When logging off my laptop, and before going into shutdown, I closed the lid on my laptop. The window is now stuck showing the prepare to shutdown screen. The mouse pad still works but nothing I push will...

Try holding down the power button until the computer force shuts down. If that doesn't work, you may need to pull the battery. Don't worry about damaging files, everything should be fine. When Windows boots up again, you just need to select "Start Windows normally".

My 2006 katana starts up runs for a while then shuts off

Has the bike been sitting for a while? If it has, then the carburetor(s) probably needs serviced. It might also be a clogged fuel strainer (usually located in the tank) If the service history of this bike is unknown, then check for a really dirty air filter(s). Try to keep the bike running by giving it some throttle. If it stays running, then the carburetor(s) will probably need to be cleaned and rebuilt. If it still shuts down, then verify fuel flow. Disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor(s) and observe fuel flow when the fuel valve is turned on. Fuel should flow out in a steady stream. If it doesn't, then clean the strainer. If it does, then drain the fuel out of the tank reconnect the line(s) and refill the tank with fresh fuel. If the bike has been sitting for a while, you could have a fuel volatility problem. I hope that this information helps you solve your problem. Thanks for trying FixYa.

Need to tighten drive chain on a honda ca 125 but bike only has a side stand; does the rear wheel need to be in the air in order to adjust using the adjusting nuts?

No it doesn't need to be off the ground.

But, remember that when you are sitting on the bike and the suspension is compressed there is less slack in the chain, so don't tighten the chain too much. Tighten it until you have an inch and a half / 3-4cm of slack in the mid point of the chain between the front and rear sprockets.
