SOURCE: rinnai convector 516TR

Hi This is happening to us and I called Rinnai... they suggested that if anyone either in our apartment or an ajoining one has painted walls or varnished a floor that the convection heater picks up the smell and the only way to get rid of it is to burn it off by running the heater for several hours in a well ventalated room...

I am going to try it tomorrow.

will let you know

The 417 service manual is dated 2003, so they're no more than 7 years old.  You can download the operation & service manuals here:

SOURCE: Dimplex Convector Heater EPX1000 turns off by itself

I have the same problem with 3 of the 5 EPX1000s I have fitted in my flat, although mine don't even warm up. They just immediately turn themselves off. My only conclusion is that they are rubbish. Specifically, the so-called overheat protection doesn't work. Avoid.

Have a Rinnai convector 404 that has a ear piercing whistle to it as soon as you turn it on, have had a look with covers off and it seems like the noise is coming from where the gas comes into the heater.

Most likely it is a problem with the gas pressure or the air adjustment. You will need a Manometer to be able to check it and adjust it so I would recommend you call your local gas technician. If you have a shut-off on the unit, you can test this by throttling down the valve till the whistle diminishes however this is not a fix, just a diagnosis.

This sounds like a faulty flame failure device. Fairly old heater this one. I have a manual on PDF but I don't think it will help you fix it.
Just found a link to users manual

Have a look but best advice is get someone to have alook at it who knows the unit and can get spares as I'm pretty certain your going to have to fork out a few dollars on this one.

I have a trouble code 11 on my Rinnai model 2532 water heater which indicates no ignition. I checked for gas supply by turning the furnace on which is approx. 1 ft. away, it works. The water heater is...

11 is a ignition failure code. Could be alot of things, I suggest calling a tech who has repaired these before. Pull the front cover off and have a helper turn on a hot water faucet. Look thru the viewing window to see if the unit is firing then going out. If not, clean out the water filter on the inlet side of the plumbing. You will need to turn off the water supply prior to cleaning it. If the unit fires but shuts off seconds after ignition, you may have a dirty or bad sensor. Call a proffessional at this point. Sorry

Hi pinkinfinite,

The 404 is a great heater. I am assuming it is a Natural Gas Heater. All it needs is a good blow out with compressed air. They tend to carbon up in the pilot light area. You will probably also find it is very dusty inside. Easiest way to clean the carbon out is to remove the hose at the heater and with compressed air blow through the fitting where you have removed the hose. Make sure you hold down the start button so the air can get through to the pilot light and jets. Don't connect the electricity for the fan when you do this.
To clean it out internally you only need to remove the front panelling. There are two screws holding the top panel (not to be confused with the side and top). The screws are located inside the bottom grill at the front. There are also screws for the bottom grill there which you will also need to remove and probably best to remove the bottom panel that house the front feet. It should expose all the inside workings of the heater except for the pilot light and jets etc. You should be able to see the fan - it is round and looks like a filter and sits behind the vent section. Make sure you give it a good blow out - it gets all dirt and dust around it. When you do it remove both the rear filters/covers. They are mesh. Blow the top one which is the larger metal one and make sure you blow inside where it fits over to remove the dust and dirt. Same with the other one which should be plastic with mesh. Once you do this put it all back together. Make sure all wires are connected and be wary with the compressed air as it may blow the connectors off from loose fitting parts. Once you get it all back together Test it and hopefully it should work. Hope this helps. I did one the same today that was having trouble starting and it now works like a new one.

Regards
Bryan
