Sounds like a broken cable. Unplug the drill. Take handle cover off and remove the mains cable. Pull on Ithaca wires separately and you will probably fine one or both comes out. Cut back the cable and refit.

Will not hammer on rotory setting

I dont know what kind you have but it is usually near the chuck and uyou might have to put it on a different speed as well, Try all different combinations and basically the hammer drill portion of the drill is a vibrqating motor and most of the time they use the rotary mottor to vibrate up and down to get it to be a hammer drill . What does it say in your manual and if you dont have one look on-line for an instruction manual download-google it

I have a battery powered ads drill similar to the drill in the picture it started to smoke and got very hot while drilling a hole now it doesn't work any ideas what the problem is

could one of 2 areas. First I would think the motor is burnt and second the switch. you can go to hitachipowertools.com and download a tool schematic for this by entering the model number DH18DL and then scroll about 1/2 way down the page and on the left hand side there is a link to view the parts list and to show you how to disassemble this. If you need more assistance please let me know.

It won't rotate. It only hammers.

The 11316 Demolition Hammer is made to hammer only, it does not rotate the bit. It is for demolition with pointed bits or flat and scraping chisels. If you want to drill holes in cement you need a rotary hammer drill.

I have taken my bosch rotary hammer apart for cleaning, now i can't put the switch spring to the knob switch

Alright, look at the picture. if (49) is missing the little tab on the opposite side shown, you will need a new shifter knob. Ideally, you would insert (83) into (49) and then push them into the knob until you hear and feel it click, that would mean that the tab has locked into the knob, and then with a pick you will set the shift fork opening in the hole to the northwestern corner of the hole. Then, making sure (46) is aimed through the shift fork wire opening, set the entire knob assembly down on the housing, push (49) all the way in until you feel the entire knob settle in further on the housing, and then rotate counter clockwise and press down at the same time. At this point the knob is installed. If (49) is damaged, I would suggest getting the knob assembly(32). The part number is 1-612-026-037 and costs about 9 dollars. It can be purchased online, or through your nearest bosch service center.

Makita HP1640 hammer drill dual mode - 2 hours

Exchanged Makita HP1640 hammer drill for a new one. The 2nd drill did the same thing in under an hour!! Will return for refund. Instructions say the Forward/Reverse switch must be in a full up or down position for the Hammer/Rotary switch to move; well, it is and the Hammer/Rotary switch still stops at a 1/2 way point between modes. Although I can still use the drill, instruction warnings say not to because it may potentially burn out the motor. I'll have to go with a different brand this 3rd time around. It seems to be a design flaw.

you need to get that service,
the grease causes the hammering.
and probably too much pressure was applied

Bosch 11222EVSG hammer drill not turning

Couple things to look at, First is the selector in the hammer/rotation mode? Without a bit in it does the collar turn when in the rotation mode. Are you using the right bits for this tool. If yes to all of these I would look down the spindle and make sure that the pawl are in place (they lock to the bit for rotation) Let me know and we will dig deeper.
