When it have this kind of error is a problem of the powerboard.
Anyway you must open it and look at the all capacitors and if are them inflated, if them are inflated must change them.

But can be a problem with inverters... control the transistors - MOSFET on the powerboard.

Good luck!

The problem was the resolution setup on the old crt monitor was not compatible with the new lcd monitor. I changed the resolution to one suggested/recommended by envision and the problem was solved.

SOURCE: Envision 17" LCD display will not stay on

Seems the N-Channel MOSFET switch in the power supply is the culprit. NTE does not list a replacement part for this, so a sub is necessary (any N-Channel 600V MOSFET in same TO220F case should suffice). I have to look one up for mine.

catamount309, This is only a guess, but unit may have internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter" board problem. When screen goes BLACK, is it also BLANK? If you can see WIN-desktop with aid of bright flashlight 1 inch from screen, then SMPS is in partial shutdown mode. If you see nothing, then SMPS is in full shutdown. In either case, Technician will need to repair the SMPS/CCFL inverter board. If KNOWN GOOD monitor works with PC, then you know 7100e is bad. Do you know and understand how the new energy efficient screw-in curlie-Q light bulbs work? If the "electronic ballast circuit" not working, then it can't light-up the CCFL tubes on the reverse side of LCD panel then you see black. How to save power even you are still using old VGA Monitor

Older monitors(CRT type) are using complex circuit than LCD, It requires more power consumption than LCD, but you can still save power by 30% through this tip.
1.You must position or install your monitor in a dark area or position.
2.Adjust the brightness control to the level of the black part of the picture must be seen black not gray, or became white.
3. Adjust the contrast control at your most comfortable level.
4.Avoid using bright picture screen saver or blank screen saver.

The power went out while i was using my computer, and after i turned it back on the monitor screen was extremely bright. im trying to adjust the brightness/contrast, but none of the monitor keys are...

I wonder if the power just went out or if you had a surge then went out. The settings are stored in a nonvolitile ram inside so you can't just unplug it and get it to reset. The bit about the buttons no longer working sounds like a power surge damaged the board. Not sure what we could do if we had it in the shop. And it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one than what the repair bill would come to.

To work around this you can adjust the contrast setting in windows (assuming thats what you are using). You need to get into display properties. It may be also under the display or video control manager if your video card uses one. I have a ATI on this machine and I have to open CCC or catalyst Control Center to get at what we need. Usually you can just right clik on a blank place on the desktop and the select properties which brings up the display stuff. Then click the settings tab, then advanced (lower right) which open a new window and then click on the Color tab. This will have a few sliders to adjust the color as well as brightness and contrast. Once you find a setting that works hit apply and you are done. If the monitor gets sorted out or replaced then you just need to go back in there and hit reset and the sliders go back to the normal positions.

Help

If the monitor was dropped, most likely you damaged the internal components that provide the picture, whether LCD or CRT. Try connecting it to another computer. If this doesn't work, check the monitor's display settings or operating system display settings for contrast or brightness. NEVER open up the monitor, because there is a high voltage capacitor that stores voltage even when the monitor is off and could kill you if it discharges.
