Just hooked up the tankless water heater. It runs for about a minute and then trips the breaker. We put in the double pole 60 breaker, are using 6/2 wire, and checked that it's 220 at the breaker box and at the unit. I have also hit the reset button and nothing. The tech support guy said "It's definitely not the unit" so that was not helpful. What else can I do?
I just love it when tech support says "It is definitely not the unit"... like nothing of theirs ever fails. That said, it is unlikely their unit is the problem. It could be a bad breaker. I have had breakers fail that were brand new. Before you install a new breaker, always switch it on and off a few times. Is there another 60 amp breaker in the box that you could temporarily use to see if the breaker is the problem? If not, I would try a new one. I hope this helps you find the problem.
Thank you for your help! I went right out and just bought another breaker. While my husband was hooking it up, I thought I decided to nose around inside yet again. We hooked our wire up to the pigtail that came on it and it turned out the ground on the pigtail wasn't all the way in! Had I not voided my warranty and looked inside I might have smashed the whole thing lol. So we put the new breaker in, moved the ground up, and 4 days later I can take a shower again! Thanks again!
