Hi
Put car on stands securely and remove wheel.
Release handbrake, Remove brake drum.
Four bolts secure the stub axle, they will be very tight so use a freeze spray penetrating oil...lots of it. Some of these cars use allen head bolts so make sure the allen socket is good quality and is fullyhome before you undo the bolts.
When refitting, check the correct torque setting for these bolts.
These are usually replaced because the bearings have failed nd scored the hard surfaces....so...do fit new..god quality bearings and regrease properly!
Refitting is a reverse...please do clean and adjust brake shoes before adjusting handbrake. And always check your brake cylinders too.
Good luck
Roger

Rear brake shoe replacement on a 98 chevy 3500 dually

If you have drums on the rer yes you do have to remove the axle its simple though you unbolt the 6-8 bolts on the end of the axle then it just simply slides out thats it there mite be some resistance but there isnt anything else holding it in. and you dont have to worry about putting it back into the same spot eather just slide it back in and line up the drum.

How do I remove the rear brake drums on a 1991 Isuzu pickup?

Bob, I recently had the same problem on my rear brakes on my S-10, I too relieved the tenioner all the way and could not get my drums off. The problem was opening in the drum that fits over the axle stub was seized. I soaked it good with Areo-Kroil over night and used a puller to get if off. If that wouldn't have worked I would have used heat on the drum around the opening, however you need to be careful when appling heat as not to melt and seals (i.e. brake cylinder axle seals) in my situation if I coundn't have got the drums off I would have cut them off with a adbrasive wheel on a die grinder as I had purchased new drums, (mine where almost as cheap as having them machined. When you put the drums back on put some anti seize on the axle stub and hole on the drums. Good luck I hope this helps

What is the torque for the rear wheel bearing nuts on 1991 vw jetta diesel

Temporarly torque the axle nut to 87 in.lb., while turning the brake drum by hand. Then loosen the nut slightly. Tighten the axle nut again, slowly and in small increments while turning the wheel, until the thrust washer can just barely be moved back and forth with a light push from the tip of a screwdriver.

I am to replace rear stub axle on a seat ibiza? do i have to strip out the inside of the drum before removing the old stub axle?

The simple answer is YES. You will need to remove brake drum / hub and inner and outer wheel bearings. This allows access to the retaining bolts.
Although a little tricky___You should now be able to install a new stub axle, without removing the brake shoes or Handbrake cable

My rear bearings are gone and so is the metal tube that goes in between the two bearings. what is that metal tube called. tks adam

I think you mean either a stub axle, (about 150mm long and tapered), or the rear axle itself. but I am sure you mean stub axle.
