Question about GE Adora DSS25KSTSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My GE Adora Model dss25ksra refrigerator decided last night to stop working. It's a case of "the lights are on but nobody is home". The lights inside will come on when the doors open, but the compressor and fan are not operating. I pulled out fridge and vacuumed off the dust from the compressor (which I occassionally will do) but this didn't seem to help. I looked for a reset switch on the compressor thinking maybe it could have overheated, but I couldn't see a reset. Do I have a motherboard issue here? Thanks, David

Yes it does sound like a motherboard issue=> WR55X10942 Main Control Board It is also good to replace the=> WR07X10057 Start Relay and WR62X0079 Run Capacitor and examine the condenser and evaporator fan motors to insure they are working properly if the motherboard has been replaced. I am here should you need me, Thanks John Tripp Appliance 911

SOURCE: freezer works but fridge remains warm.

The same fan that circulates air in the freezer also blows air in to the fridge. If you open the freezer door and hold the door switch closed you should hear the fan running. If not you have a failed motor or motor control. Look at the back wall of the freezer section and see if there is a heavy frost build up. If so. you have a defrost system problem. Please post back with what you find and with the complete model number and I will try to walk you through the steps of checking everything.
Thanks/Mike

My water dispenser quit working any ideas on how to fix or reset it

Mine just stopped also, apparently the water line on certain models is prone to freezing inside the door, (your model is included in the list). After time (in my case 8 years) water migrates into the foam insulation. You can thaw it out with a hair dyer but it will probably freeze again. Here's a link to a part you can get to fix it, haven't received mine yet so I don't know if it works (others say it does). Just call GE and demand that they sell it to you for $20. They will if you're persistatnt Redirect Notice

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.

Our GE Adora Refrigerator's ice maker isn't working properly

Perhaps your freezer isn't set cold enough - or your freezer door seal is not sealing correctly and the ice cubes are melting in the bin and sticking to one another and the spiral screw that delivers the ice.

Is the light on inside? If yes, it could be thermostat, defrost timer or compressor start relay. All are worth fixing. Worst case would be compressor, but check those other items first.

If the refrigerator is not cooling it could be for a couple reasons.
Either there is an excess of ice buildup between the freezer and the refrigerator or the compressor is bad. If its just and ice buildup all you need to do is remove the ice by either defrosting the refrigerator or using hot water poured down into the air vent inside the machine.
If its not the ice, its probably the compressor in which case you would have to get a professional to come and replace it which is rather costly. In most cases you are better off buying a new machine rather than replacing the compressor. Especially since it is not that old and is already having a major problem. If you decide to buy a new machine I recommend Whirlpool brand appliances.
