Question about Sharp R-1480 Microwave Oven
Pushed door opening button too hard, it went slack. now door won't open.
The "knob" you push to open the door pushes against a spring loaded lever which releases the door. sometimes the knob tab slips out of position or gets broken.when this happens the knob remains inside it's recess.you have to remove the oven housing to get at the knob and the lever.be sure to unplug the oven before attempting. if take the oven to a repair person. it is a simple problem and should not be expensive to repair.

Take it to a Discount Appliance or Used Appliance store and have them repair it. There they will have the parts that are used and cheaper to repair than hiring an Appliance Service Technician.
Take the microwave apart and go to www.searpartsdirect.com and type in your model number and find the broken part and part number. Then order the part through ApplianceZone.com or ApliancePartsPro.com. Later when parts arrive at your door... install theparts yourself and save money!

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.
If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.
We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
We also have this full service manual at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdf
Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

What usually breaks is the door open lever. Please unplug the oven first.
At our site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Then you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.
You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number at the Sears parts site, but the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics. You can also call them at 866-779-5835.

But does not what? If the door doesn't open, chances are the seal has gotten sticky so try to apply a little outward pull... If it is sticky and opens, wipe down with moist cloth both the seal and the mating surface.
