The defroster is on a timer usually locater in the roof of the refrigerator. Turn it until it shuts the compressor down. Use your thumbnail. It should start up again on it's own. If you're having frost problems, look for mouse damage in the back of the unit, where the pipes come through.

I have a 93 Nissan pathfinder, the rear window defroster dosent work, how do i trouble shoot and repair it. also, i cant seem to get the cruse control to work, how do i trouble shoot and repair it. tha

The rear window defroster can be tested by checking for power out of the fuse box to the switch which operates a relay usually 4 pin 2 pins are the controlling side and the other 2 are battery power and the window element wire. Some switches have a led light in them that shows power is completed thru the switch . With a volt meter test wires at rear window some times if to many breaks in the grid stops the system from working. the cruise control has a servo with it's own throttle cable check for broken cable and check for engine vacuum to servo. then test switches on steering column with a ohm meter for proper continuity and test brake light switch.

Most likely you have an automatic defrost problem. The 3 items that fail are the defrost control / timer, the defrost element or the defrost thermostat. Without a complete and exact model number, pointing you to a parts source is difficult. Also somewhere in the lower part of most units is a tech data packet with the wiring diagram. You will be looking for an open element, themostat or no power from the defrost control.

My Maytag PTB1953GRW has ice build up in the freezer & the refrigerator is only about 50 degrees even tough it's turned up all the way, any trouble shooting suggestions?

You must have a either a bad evap fan or a defrost heater gone bad. Possibly a defrost heater thermostat. Remove the service panel and see if the fan is blowing in the evap section. Check for continuity on the heater element and termination thermostat.

Refrigerator not cold and ice keeps building up in lower freezer unit all over .keep defrosting and runs good and then same problem.

Your defrost timer is bad or your heating element. The defrost timer in newer models is inside the fridge side under the plastic cover in the back or if you have a light and dial themostat dial in the top centre its there. The timer will be black with a shaft in the center that a flatblade screw driver can turn. Turn it slowly one click at a time until the fan and compressor kick off. (the fan in the fzr will kick off also) You can hear audible clicks but go slow the defrost mode is just one click of the dial and it may take you a few minutes to hit the spot. When the fan and compressor stops wait about 3 minutes and listen to the freezer you should hear hissing and popping ice sounds if you dont you need to defrost the freezer and take the back off so you can see the cooling coils you may have to defrost it even more once the coils is exsposed. You will see a black heating element (or a glass one with an element inside rare) this element will be attached to the cooling coil and on one end of it will be a nikle size disc this is the defrost limit it keeps the heating element from getting to hot for to long. If the element is bad it will usually have a spot in it blown out and burnt. You can ck the element with an ohm/volt meter these can be picked up at any hardware store for 5 to 15 dollars. It will come with directions on how to use it. But either your defrost timer, element,or thermal limit is out. If you have any trouble let me know and I will walk you thru it. good luck and respect the electricity and unplug the fridge before testing parts.

Same symptom, freezer works... fridge doesn't, and its frozen

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
