Many folks have reported this, the latching mechanism wears out eventually. We had the problem but discovered that the door on the basket wasn't getting completely closed. Now I make sure it's closed and haven't had any problem since. Hope this solves your issue - if not, keep an eye on yard sales, we picked up two at different times for $5 and now have parts to swap out - not much help for a failed latch though. Glad I never paid full price for it, even though it's a fairly good grinder/brewer.
I am thinking about purchasing this model; so I am very interested in your report.
We are replacing a Braun KF 145 that's about 8 yrs old.
We had a similar problem that was solved by taking care with the coffee filter basket. Always close the basket firmly in place before you place the carafe in position. The overflow problem only occurred when we placed the carafe first and then closed the filter basket.
