The fact that there is no screw suggests its a push fit. Without knowing the machine, I am taking an educated guess, but suggest you will need a hydraulic press.

Bearings are made to be replaced and are a standard size. Either present the shaft size, the recess it fits into size and the width and any bearing dealer will supply you the required item. When you do buy a bearing ask for a 2RS bearing. That means that it has rubber seals on both side of the bearing. Or take the sample with you, even if it is in pieces. Also, the bearing number is usually stamped on the side of the outer race, something like 6201 or 6201 2RS.
Bearings can be difficult to remove, especially if they have fallen apart and the balls have come out. To get the inner race off a shaft, the easiest way is to grind the race on one spot almost to the shaft and then give it a whack with a hammer and it should crack in the ground face. The outer race can be levered out of the housing or if it is too tight, drill two 1/8" holes through the housing opposite each other so that you can knock the race out with a pin punch. Refitting the bearing (replace both of you can) - slide the new bearing onto the shaft after giving it a light rub with a fine abrasive material and giving it a light smear of thin oil, tap it down until it bottoms on its flange, when both bearings are on the shaft, press it into the housing and assemble the motor again - that's it.

I don't know. Mostly such things are intuitive when somebody who is used to taking things apart just looks at them and handles them. Sometimes an ally housing needs a little heat to expand it in order to help ease things apart or remove a shaft complete with a bearing. Armatures are delicate and expensive but often some force is needed to remove them.

If you do an internet search for spare parts you will probably find an exploded diagram of your saw which might help.

Once you're familiar with it, the A200 is OK to work on. Just pay close attention to the sequence in which the gears are removed and lay them out on a table in that sequence. You'd need to remove most of the gears from the center planetary shaft, which requires removal of the shift lever (right side, 4 screws). You shouldn't need to remove the planetary (lower end that holds the attachments and rotates). Eventually you'll be able to remove the smaller shafts as assemblies and replace the brass worm gear.

You'll want to scoop out the grease with brass shavings in it (replace all the grease to be thorough, especially if it has broken down and is very runny or very thick (the grease should be a little bit thinner than the consistency of peanut butter), spin the removed bearings by hand and listen for rough operation (particularly the smaller bearings on the upper end of the two small shafts (bearings in the upper bearing cover). Also check to see that the two brass bushings, which reside in two of the gears removed from the center planetary shaft, spin freely BOTH on the planetary shaft AND in the gear they reside in (if not, one of your speeds probably won't work).

For an experienced technician, the job would take approximately 1-1.5 hours unless the old grease is all cleaned out thoroughly to replace with all new grease (thorough cleaning requires the removal of planetary and planetary shaft), and thorough cleaning can be a time consuming process. Then you might get closer to 2.5 hours.

Nut that holds the blade loosens after one cut. saw also runs loud and rough. believe is it related to the "gears" and cause of the nut loosening.


Sounds like a bearing is shot and rattling up the works there. Rock the blade back and forth and see if there is any play in it, check the bearing at the other end of the shaft. Is this one of those skil saw motor saws? Or is the motor hanging down below the blade? Need to know that before I can tell you what it is.

I have an old craftsman table saw. i believe the "brake" or gears a shot. the saw runs very loud and shakes. now no matter how much i tighten the blade the nut loosens after one cut.


With the saw unplugged and the blade tightened, using your fingers try to wiggle the blade side to side and lift it up and down. Other than a little flexing of the blade, there should be no movement. If you have much movement you have a problem and the saw is dangerous. If this is a belt-driven saw, then you may be able to replace the bearings on the arbor (the shaft the saw mounts to) or you may have to replace the whole arbor. If this is a direct-drive saw (the saw mounts directly on the motor shaft) then the bearings that have failed are in the motor and you are less likely to be able find and install replacement bearings. If you find the model number of your saw, you might be able to find drawings and replacement parts on this site:

Earlier comment 103.0205 Table Saws does not need lubrication is simply wrong.

The103.0202, 103.0203, 103.0305 Craftsman Companion Table Saws main Arbor axle DOES have to lubricated or else the axle bearing will quickly loosen side-to-side or vertically and fail to provide accurate saw cuts.

FWIW, Sears no longer sells Arbor Axle replacement parts... The Table Saw Arbor axle and Bearing Housing cannot use sealed bearings unless the saw case is re-milled and extensively modified. There are 2 Oil Hole Plugs (part# 475-32) that need to be opened and oil applied so the Arbor axle shaft does not get scored or worn.

I use 30wt motor oil to relube the Arbor Axle Shaft depending on amount of use, temperature, and axle rotation stiffness.

Remember, the higher the RPM speed of the table saw motor and/or the longer the use, the more frequently you may need to relube the Arbor Axle Bearing!

How to replace main shaft bearing


Almost all of the Skil table saws are the same setup when it comes to the motor and drive assembly. Remove your blade before servicing. You will need an arbor press, bearing seperator/puller and drill/driver bits (torx or philip depending on model) plus some adjustable ring pliers to accomplish this repair.

First thing you have to do is remove the motor from the saw. Place the saw on its wide side and adjust the motor with the height adjustment wheel so as to access the hex screws holding the motor to the rack.

Next, before removing the motor you need to remove the motor cord from the switch. Flip the table saw upside down flat on its table. Remove the switch cover and disconnect the black and white wire from the switch marking their position or noting the other wires from the cords position and the relation to the motor wires. Now you can undo the hex screws to release the motor.

Once your motor is released you can remove the spindle shaft by removing the 3 screws from the bearing housing. You can pry the assembly off with a couple of screwdrivers or by using a soft hammer and tapping the edges to remove.

Once removed you will have to remove the gear before you can get to the bearing. Use a bearing seperator/puller to pull the gear off the shaft. Once the gear is off you need to remove the woodruff key before removing the bearing. After the woodruff key is out you can remove the c-clip that holds the bearing to the shaft. Now you can use an arbor press to press the shaft out of the bearing.

Replace your bearing and put it back together. Any questions please post back.

Gear cases are easy to take apart with the proper tools.I suggest buying a Clymer Manuel. it has a list of special tools. TEAR DOWN PROCEDURE(1) remove the propeller shaft bearing carrier assembly by removing the carrier ring. takes a special tool. (2)the bearing carrier depending on the running condition will become stuck in the gear case. there is a special tool for removing the bearing carrier out of the gear case.(3) the bearing carrier houses the reverse gear make sure the reverse gear was removed when the bearing carrier came out. (4)look inside of gear case you will see the propshaft assembly, drive shaft with pinion gear assembly, and the forward gear.(5) on the drive shaft pinion gear you will see a nut. there is a close clearance between that nut and the clutch dog on the propshaft assembly. it takes a special wrench to get this nut off plus a spline tool to hold the drive shaft as your turning the nut off. you can make them both but be careful.(6) there are two different styles for this model of stern drive a "R" and a "MR" the "MR" drive has a retaining nut for bearing preload for the drive shaft. need special tool to remove it. the "R" drive has a spring loaded pin on the top of the driveshaft to control bearing preload. no special tool need to remove shaft after pinion nut removal.(7) once the driveshaft is removed the propshaft comes out by lining up the shift shaft just right. (8) turn the shift shaft until the shift crank is at a right angle to the propeller shaft. you can't see the shift crank because it is behind the forward gear you have to go by experience or feel. once you have the shift crank lined up properly push the propshaft to the left side of the gear case housing then pull out at that angle. GOAL propshaft "clutch dog actuating shaft" in basic terms, is like a hook that grabs onto the shift crank. you unhook it by moving the propshaft tip to the side, causing the back of the propshaft inside the housing, to unhook and move away the the shift crank. it sounds complicated but once you do it you see how easy it is.(9) once you have the propshaft and the forward gear out you can leave the shift shaft inside.there is no need to remove it. have fun
