Kenmore washer 100.92380200 upper agitator not turning

The upper agitator is not turning anymore. The lower part does work but the upper part (big agitator) seems to be ''loose'' for lack of a better word. Do you have pictures of the repairs I need to do? Thanks in advance.

Just fixed mine. You will need an agitator repair kit. It comes with cover seal, bolt seal ratchet pieces and thrust plate for the bottom of upper agitator. Remove fabric cup and cover underneath. Remove bolt and upper agitator. Simple fix. New parts have instructions to repair. Get the correct model number and buy it from an appliance parts place. Around $20.00 retail.

Clothes getting twisted around agitator

That does not sound good. New dogs sound great, but you must get to the bottom of why the clothes are becoming twisted on the agitator. Usually not enough WATER. Think loose flow of clothes submerged.
Long story short, you cannot jam pack this machine. Less clothes, more water, will equal long life.
Be sure that the mating teeth for the dogs, is not damaged. Slipping here would make loud noise.
More water, less clothes.

Upper portion of Whirlpool agitator not turning

Your agitator dogs are worn out. Remove the agitator and seperate the upper section from the lower section. There are 4 small teardrop shaped pieces that are the agitator dogs. They have either come apart over time or at least the teeth have worn off them.
Post back with any questions. Please verify the model number. I couldn't pull up a parts list for it. I know the last digit should be a 0 (zero) instead of an o.
Thanks/Mike

Kenmore washer will not agitate but will spin. Transmission spind free and motor was replaced. Could it be the capactor?

Hello,

No very likely it will not be a problem with the capiciator, what it does is gives the motor a extra jolt of power when it first starts to get the motor running,so if the motor runs the cap. is working normally. Since it does spin yet wont agitate the problem is very likely going to the transmission. HOWEVER FIRSTLY THOUGH I HAVE A QUESTION; is both the upper barrel of the agitator AND the lower paddles not agaitating or is just the upper portion notturning while the lower paddles work??

If both the upper and lower section aren't moving the problem will probable be the tranmission

IF JUST THE UPPER PORTION ISN'T WORKING the problem will be the part called the agitator dogs, thats a fairly common problem with the dogs to be worn out and just the upper part of agitator not working....this tip i wrote will show ya how to replace the dogs if that is what turns out to be the problem. http://www1.fixya.com/support/r10294924-top_part_agatator_isnt_turning_top_load

The top of the spinning post in the middle of the tub now won't spin when washing (evidently disconnected from lower part of spinning post)?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Some Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a two piece agitator.

The lower piece will turn both left and right while the upper unit is designed to turn only one way.

The device that allows the upper unit to turn only one way are called "Agitator Dogs" small plastic pieces that can wear over time.

See the following for how to check and replace them if they are worn.

See the Sears parts site for the agitator. These are relatively inexpensive parts.

Kenmore Series 80 Washer, Model 20852 - Agitator not turning well, making noise

Hi, If the washer spins properly but the agitator does not work, it could be the dog kit needs replaced. If the washer does not agitate or spin, it is probably the coupler.
Put the washer in wash cycle with no laundry in it and see if the lower prt of the agitator moves. If the agitator moves, try and hold the upper half of the agitator and see if it will only move one direction. The agitaor dog kit is designed to only let the top part of the agiator to grab one way. When they go bad, they can make some noise.
To replace the dog kit in the agitator, remove the top cap/rinse dispenser and the inner bolt cover. Remove the 7/16” bolt and lift the agitator out of the washer. Separate the 2 halfs of the agitator and replace the dog kit inside the upper part of the agitator.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

How do I replace the dogs in a Kenmore Elite washer?

With a flat blade screwdriver or putty knife, remove the top cover from the agitator. Use pliers to pull out the inside plastic cover.Take a 7/16 socket on a extension and remove the nut .Pull the agitator out. It should separate. If it does not separate, stand on the lower half and forcefully pull up on the upper half.Remove the agitator dogs and spline gear from the upper agitator. Replace the dogs. Re-assemble the agitator. Wash clothes.

Kenmore series 80 washer: does not twist in the middle

Check the agitator by turning it back and forth. It should work like a ratchet (turns one way, locks the other way).If you're able to turn it in both directions, the agitator dogs are worn and need to be replaced.
Remove the agitator cap and the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out you can remove the top section of the agitator (auger) where you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). Replace those and it should be ok.
