Hi, have a cruzer titanium 8gb. Had it for over a year and been OK. Now just sits in the USB port & flashes about 8 times, pauses and the just repeats the flashing. Tried to open from 'my computer'...

You have lost all the data as it is. Unfortunately, you may have pulled the cruzer from the usb port by hand without using the EJECT Format. You should always EJECT a USB Dongle first to avoid STATIC Charge. Static erases the formatted device and washes away all data. In the Winter this condition is more active than when humidity is high. In many cases, the drive can not be formatted again.

Hello, have a 4GB SanDisk pen drive all of

It is a common problem for SanDisk USB Flash drives.
Try to unplug it and to plug it again and repeat this process a few times.
If it doesn't makes a difference, then I am sorry to inform that you just lost all your data from the flash drive.
You only have to format it and try to recover your files.
Here is a tips and tricks that I wrote and could help you: http://www.fixya.com/support/r4482753-recover_lost_or_deleted_files_from_hard
OK, but there is a catch. Take a close look at the window where the software is scanning your drive. If there are sectors(rows) that are 0 you cannot recover your data.
If this doesn't work try so see if in hex the sectors are numbered. If you will see a complete line of 0, then you won't be able to recover any data from the device.
I am saying this from experience, because I just lost my data from Cruzer Titanium just a few days ago.
If you need further assistance, just leave a comment

"limitation is that flash memory has a finite number of erase-write cycles. Most commercially available flash products are guaranteed to withstand around 100,000 write-erase-cycles, before the wear begins to deteriorate the integrity of the storage"
This means that your flash card may have been damaged by not removing correctly Flash card are not that reliable AS previous pen drives
just a sugestion

Pen drive problme

you need to reformat the flash drive. right click, click format (assuming Windows XP), then format with the default options (do not quick format).

If it will not format, it is corrupted, in which case it is worthless, for all purposes.

May be the USB drive is damged. Try connecting it to another machine. If it works then plug it in to the same port as you have installed it.
