Weird power issue...I think.

Ok, I have had this emachines w5243 for a little over a year now. It has been work fine with no problems. Untill now. I was on it serfing the web, when it just shut right off. I waited a bit and turned it back on, it was on another hour or so and it shut right back off. Turned it on again and it shutoff before complete startup. Now when I turn it on, it starts like normal, then comes up with a windows error recovery. This screen has 2 options, launch startup repair, and start windows normally. I can leave it on this screen for hours and nothing, but as soon as I select eather option it brings up a loading bar, with a copywrite microsoft corp. underneath it, that bar runs for a few seconds and the computer goes off agian...Is this a bad powewr supply, I heard that they (emachines) use cheap ones.

I've had 3 pc's that installed a windows update about a week ago, shut down, and restarted in a "windows error recovery" that didn't fix anything and I couldn't get out of. The ONLY fix I managed was a complete windows re-installation, including applying all windows updates. 48 hours later one of the PC's has run the update again and is back in the recovery loop. I think windows update has caused the problem - but how do I prove it? And what do I do about it?

I think you have answered your own question--if an external monitor displays just fine, that means your video is working OK. You need a new display.

My Emachines Desktop W5243 works sometimes and others just beeps

You might be having a minor dust particle situation going on. Take the memory out of the system. Get a can of air and blow out the slots on the motherboard where the memory would normally go. Then take the can of air and blow the connectors on both sides of the memory. After this then put the memory back into the slot firmly. Don't worry cause the memory can only go in one way in the slots. It should snap into place. After this then turn the computer on and it should boot up fine. If you keep having intermittent problem after this then replace the memory.
