Question about Lexmark X3470 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Hi everyone, I just recieved a seconhand lexmark X3470 and just solved the cover open issue as follows. The reason it is happening is a broken bit of plastik that pushes onto the atual switch if you turn it upsidedown it should fall out [ throw it in the bin] Now as you open and close the lid, at the back you will see a moulded peice of the lid sticking out next to the paper feed roller, this is what conected to the other broken bit wich then pushed in the switch. So if you get a torch and look in the gap aligned with the were the bit that sticks out of the back of the lid you will then see a small black thing atatched to a green board and in the middle of this there is the actuall tiny switch witch needs to be pushed in and held there, i used super glue its a bit tricky but it works

Same thing happened as soon as the cartridge was replaced cover open error came on. We have found no solution. My solution is going to be to buy another printer. Not a Lexmark!

Thanks Benny29
I did what you said, but I used tape and a pen to push the tape into place and it has worked for awhile now. Thanks again. Try this and maybee it will work for you to. Mumm64

I Took some tape rolled it up and jammed it down in there with the bottem part of a Ink Pen. Works. Kinda Ugly but better than buying another one of these junk Printers. I'll use this ink up and get rid of it. Will warn all of my Friends against this Peice of Junk. THANK YOU BENNY29! I would have never figured this one out!

We should all get together and write to the Better Business Bureau about the problems with Lexmark printer X3470, and should be listed as a recall, and replace these printer for a better one at their cost not our.

The flashing light could
indicate either a communication problem between one of your cartridges and the
printer, a short in one of the cartridges, paper jam or the cartridge carrier
has stalled. Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:
1. Remove the sheets of
paper from the feeder. Make sure there are no foreign objects or debris in the
feeder.
2. Open the printer
cover and remove both the cartridges.
3. While the cover is
open, ensure there are no paper jams and the cartridge carrier is free from
obstructions.
4. Close the printer
cover.
5. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where
the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after
30 seconds.
6. When the printer
turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.
7. Close the printer
cover and check the light status.
8. If light on printer
is normal, open the printer cover and reinsert the other cartridge. Check the
light status.
9. Replace whichever
cartridge is causing the light to flash with a new cartridge. You can also try
to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is
faulty.
10. Load some paper. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

1. Make sure the printer is on.
2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier
moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.
Note:
If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the
printer/unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to
the center.
3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
4. Close the printer cover.
5. Re-brick your printer.
Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the
back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge
first.
7. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
8. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge.
Close the printer cover.
9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to
appear with a new cartridge.
If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

I have the same problem with Dasilva's COVER OPEN
Same thing
Install a new ink cartridge
Cover open error
Plugged plug - still same error
removed and re-inserted ink cartidge - same error
cover open error will not go away
piece of junk printer
this is my third printer with the same problem
tried same things still not working just used one cartridge and wont work anymore.
Cover open problem - is this a bad sensor, I've heard other people have the same problem. Do the other lexmark printers use same sensor?
We're having the same issue with "cover open" being displayed. This happened right after we replaced the cartridge for the first time. Not sure what else to do.
same problem here.
I changed the ink cartridge, and closed the cover but it still said cover open. I took the cartridge out, and unplugged printer and yes it still said cover open. I would really like to use my printer.
My dad bought a lexmark printer and after about 7 months the display said that the cover was open. It was inside the warranty so he exchanged it and less than 6 months later the new one is doing the same thing. They wouldn't let him exchange this one as they said the warranty was only valid from the purchase of the original one and therefore had ran out. I have one of the broken printers so if anyone can offer any help eventually it'd be much appreciated. Also, just to emphasis how terrible lexmark are, when you go on the website to the help section you have to pay £15 for advice, even though the product is faulty! Surely this is against statutary rights??
I changed the printer ink and now the "cover open" message won't go away. I wrote to the company and they gave me instructions on how to fix it... but of course that didn't work. When I wrote them back to tell them it didn't work, they told me that if it was still under warrenty then I could have it replaced... the problem being my warrenty ran out in Sept.
Was printing and the printer printed two copies of the same thing and then I was having a message come on the computer telling me it could show the problem and then I saw the printer had cover open on it I change the ink and nothing. to get rid of it I had to unpug the printer but then I can't print with the printer off. If something broke on it and it shouldn't have it should be replace from Lexmark. I bought this damn printer last year and bought an HP the year before. I ca't keep buying printer every year, I don't have an money tree growning anywhere. Chris
Changed Ink Cartridge Now it says cover open and it doesnt go away. Unplugged, plugged back in still same thing.
Same! Re-installed software, powered down, nothing helps. I do not have a receipt. I bought it at Wal-Mart. Terrible printer. Chronic paper jams, poorly built, print quality moderate at best...unless you treat every print as photo quality, then, it takes forever! I agree that it should be recalled.
i bought this printer about 6 months ago but has not use it in the past 3 months because of the same problem. i do a lot of printing so therefore i had just bought me alot of replacement. when my daughter change the ink cartridge the green light showed the cover open we did everthing step by step, open and close cover unplug and replug we even remove and add hardware to computer nothing changed. i am giving this printer a bad report and will send a letter with all these complains and send it to 7 news for an advise alert. redbone20
Whem I start the show: COVER OPEN. I disconected the printer and the problemen continue. I removed the cartridge and put back and not soulved the problemen. I purchased this printer 6 month ago.
I am having the same issue. I removed the ink cartridge to replace and ever since it's been showing COVER OPEN.
It came from no where. just say "cover open" and does not go off, does not change mode. just got like that with no outside efect. I can only think may be that the waranty already expired. and that is the "Right time" for things to show that they "were builded" To break so buying again is the operating "Action to take"
changed cartridge for the first time. i have the same cover open problem i called lexmark and was told a sensor went bad also was told one in ten printers have this problem. junk don,t buy. did same thing as dasilva did not help x3470 donnacna@comcast.net
Same problem so now I need to buy a new printer and am out a new ink cartriage because I am not buying another lexmark. I did all the stuff mentioned and am trying to take the #### thing apart and see what I find.
