RESTART function doesn't work

I can SHUT DOWN and START, but the RESTART function doesn't work. It gets going up until the WELCOME TO WINDOWS screen starts (Windows 7) then turns off. If I just SHUT DOWN then pause a moment and START, no problem

After talking to a technician locally, he showed me a chip that should be glued onto the cooling fan. With time or knocks, the glued area can come loose so the chip is not solidly seated on the cooling fan. That's probs why when I leave the laptop for one minute after shut-down before starting, it starts up without crashing. Just a little bit of cool-down time.

Try going into safe mode upon startup by hitting the F8 button. If it does then hit safe mode to get into your computer. Go to start>accessories>system tools>system restore. Follow the wizard to restore your computer to a date earlier than when you started having problems. Let me know if you have any problems or questions.

SOURCE: acer aspire one stuck on windows safe mode restart

If you have the option of going to a command prompt (on the choose how to start "text" screen), do it, and type at the C:> fdisk /mbr then press the ENTER key. This may fix things. Also, try removing the battery when the computer is off, wait about a minute, then replace it and start computer. This actually helps sometimes.

You'll beasked to hit any button to boot from your CD; press any key. You will then beasked if you want to install a fresh version of your OS or "Repair" acurrent copy. Choose the "Repair" option.

Why Is It That Windows 7 "Help & Support" and The "View help" Tabs No Longer Open?

Something done 8 months ago seems a long time before you noticed that the help function had gone. So could it be more recent?
You could try System Restore. This will put restore your system to an earlier time. You can pick that point. Not certain it would go back 8 months though! Type System Restore in the search of the start menu. When it comes up click it and follow the directions. Shut all programs down before you do (except windows).

How can I enable hibernation on my HP Mini 5101?

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

Generally all Windows OS has an option for sleep & hibernate.

Windows XP Users
  • Sleep Mode
By letting your computer idle for a period of time, i.e. not moving the mouse/touchpad, or not pressing any keys except when playing a video, the screen or desktop monitor will go dark. You can resume the computer by moving the mouse/touchpad or by pressing any key on the keyboard.
  • Hibernation or Standby mode
Click Start, click on Turn Off Computer, then click Stand By.

Windows VISTA/Windows 7 Users

To put Windows VISTA & Windows 7 in Sleep or in Hibernation, the steps basically the same. First click Start, then click the small arrow head located to the right of the Start Menu, then you click Sleep or Hibernate.
