The faulty wire was shorting on the ground. When that happened the current flowing thru the amplifier top which that wire was connected got severely overstressed. This is why the safety system was triggering. By reseting it you were just making the problem a lot worse - you were forcing the amplifier to run with its output shorted. So it was to be expected that it eventually failed - it severely overheated and it got shorted itself internally. Now it's the short in the amplifier the one that is triggering the error message. And because the short is on a critical part you can no longer reset it - the power source itself has shut down.
The radio will have to be dismantled and the failed final amplifier identified and replaced, a job for a pro - time to take it to an electronics repair shop.
