Question about Brother MFC 420CN All-In-One InkJet Printer
I had a paper jam a while ago and an "unable to print 34" message came up. I checked the manual and it said any kind of message with "unable to print #" meant something was stuck in the printer. I can't see anything else and it looked like I got all the paper out. I turned it off and unplugged everything and it eventually turned into an "unable to change 32", but soon after it changed to "unable to change 34". So I have no idea why it kept changing, but it won't print anything and I can't use any of the other functions. It won't even turn off. I asked the store where it was bought(it was a christmas gift) and they said to call the brother support number and if they can't help me then I'd have to send it to them. So I don't know if there's anyway I can fix it or if I should just go ahead and send it in. Thanx!
my problem was the positioning of the print head. I opened the scanner cover, pressed the cover-closed control-switch and wait until the head begins to turn back to park position at the right side. When it began to move around the park position i pressed it to the right side. After that, all was ok.
I demonstrate it in a youtube video

I had the same problem. It DID have a paper jam, I opened the Back cover to no avail, and found the paper jam when I lifted up the scanner from the bottom. I unplugged the printer twice and plugged it back in. Finally it did a cleaning cycle and everything was OK, other than using up some outrageously priced ink. I skimmed thru the HTML owner's manual but couldn't find how to initiate a cleaning cycle manually. I have a suspicion that if you can get it to clean itself the problem will go away.

I encountered the same problem. I just took all what's left of the paper from inside of the machine and than took off this plastic cover from the back of the machine. Than "unable to print 34" message disappeared, and "receiving data" message appeared on the lcd. Without the plastic cover machine released 3 pages and showed this message about paper fed. Than I put the cover back on it's place and pushed the green button (colour). Than again "receiving data" and mfc 440cn just printed requested documents. I have no idea why it was so simple, maybe i was lucky, no harm in trying after all, good luck!

If its guarantee send it in.
There might be some paper left in the machine and/or the encoder strip which gives the printhead the position was lifted out of position.
In case youll end it in they will change the cover of the printhead to avoid this error in future.
In case you are out of guarantee plz post it here as a new prob! Ill give you the clue then.
