If the motherboard is atx and the power supply is atx then the mb connectors should be marked on the mb and power supply. the mb side you will need a magnifier to read the small print. they will be in a line together somewhere near the lower corner of the board, in a straight line. usually rst is reset - hdd led is hard drive led and the square 20 pin conn, goes somewhere near the processor. if you have at board or powersupply it won't work they both have to be the same form factor. there are others and not knowing the case or ps i cant give you more info.

Will new micro atx boards fit inside of a hp 4550z case?

Yes i think you will be ok as i can see and your old motherboard is microatx but i strongly recommend you to change case because is not only about motherboard. You will need and better and new power supply and if you want to build a good system with air flow for not overheating your new cpu and other hardware i strongly recommend you to change and chassis!!You can find a "nice" case with $50-$70 bucks if you dont want to spend money on case, but you will need power supply for sure

Old case new motherboard

You could get it to work by hooking the wiring as you say, But you will be better off with a new case set up for the newer M-board.

Need to know where to put wires on hp motherboard

The last clarification that you provided with details on the motherboard and type of computer it came from were perfect!

I work on HP computers, laptops and printers everyday - as that is the only model we use at my company. I can surely help you with this one as I am well versed in breaking down and rebuilding computers. I don't know if there are specific wires that you're unsure of, or if you need help installing all of the wires to the board. Hopefully, this will help get you started.

I located a really detailed layout of your motherboard. You will see one black and white, drawn and labeled diagram of the board as well as a color photo of the board that isn't labeled. You will also find specs on the board as well as information about clearing the BIOS settings and/or BIOS password.

Click this link: Motherboard Specifications, MCP61PM-HM (Nettle)
HP's name for this board is also Nettle. It's pretty explanatory and if you try to connect a wire to the wrong connector on the board, more than likely, the pins won't match and it won't fit.

Hope this helps! Feel free to post any additional questions if you have problems installing the board.

Need diagram for compaq mother board UWAVES2, so I can find the location for where the led, hdd and other wires need to be connected.

No you will need to get the manual for the computer that the motherboard came out of for that. Anyone could have made that board. Compaq did not make that board or any other board as far as that goes. Contact Compaq if you do not know what system that it came out of and they might try to help you if they speak English and understand it. Good luck on getting an American. I personally would only figure out where the power plug goes and forget the rest. You need to find a needle in a hay stack. Compaq probably does not even know where the plugs go or what motherboard it is. We do not have any way of knowing that. I did a google search and did not find anything but this question. You will have to probably have to go to a computer store that sells Compaq - HP (Same company) and see if they know. Good luck

Pluging in extra usb ports/Mic and headphone jacks from the tower

Answer me this. You're case is an Antec tower? The motherboard is the Asus P4P800 SE ? Is this correct?
If you have you're manual you can see what goes where on the board for front panel connector page. 2-31. (This diagram shows you how to connect the front mic & speaker).
To connect the Antec's front USB ports plug the case USB front connectors onto USB56 & USB78 shown on page. 2-30. Most case wires are already set within their USB connectors & the Antec's front USB connector should fit right on the mother board's pin's. If you need you're user manual, download from Asus by clicking on this link. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4P800%20SE&SLanguage=en-us

Good Luck!
Mike

Power Switch for this PC?

I've read your question & am still confused about which switch you need. I'm guessing that it's the power switch on your case that is broke? If so you can go to just about any auto parts store & buy a push-button two wire off/on switch. Even in a Low's store. It may or may not fit just perfactly on your case but it's better then turning the power off with a pen directly off the motherboard. Been down the road your on. It's either this or buy another case. You will not find your case a new switch. You can use your case's wiring connector to plug into the board listed on pg. 1-18 in your manual. It's two pins. You can splice the two pin connector from your case to a new switch's wires. As far as connectors go. You can buy a small pack of single connectors for a computer from radio shack to connect to the boards (power) ATX power switch. All the parts shouldn't cost you more than $10.00. Cheeper than a new case!

No boot, casing problem?

What is the powersupply in the 1U case. Is it sufficient for this motherboard? Try using the powersupply from another case that you know works with this board and see what happens. The larger standard ATX powersupply won't "fit" the 1U case but you should be able to run wires to allow you to test with.
