Dell dimension 2400 won't boot, just blank monitor. Power light comes on but desktop wont turn off after that just goes to amber light. The issue occurred when I replaced RAM with 128mb with 1gb in same...

This is a memory issue. First try to test it again with the 128mb of ram. Then go to the website www.crucial.com and test to see how much your system can allow to increase for memory and also see the type of memory your suppose to use. It could be that your not using the correct amount or the right memory

Would there be any 32bit PCI expansion slots on an IBM windows98?

There are PCI slots, but the processor, ram, and video capabilities are far below what modern components expect. You probably could get the wireless card to work, make sure the manufacturer has drivers for Windows 98 before you buy the card.

In my opinion you should maximize your RAM. For a Dimension 2400, Dell's manual claims the min is 128 Mb and the max is 1Gb. Not sure how you got to only 32Mb of RAM but you'll see a big improvement in performance if you increase it.

Do you have an old IBM or a Dell (the area you posed the question in)?

Added a memory stick to my Dell 2400 Desktop computer and the monitor, mouse, & keyboard won't work

Hi

The supported Memory types for Dimension 2400 Series is PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC). Supported Memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB and a Max if 1GB (1024MB).

The first obvious question is does the new 512MB Memory module meet the above specification? Some Memory modules are able to steep down speed.

If it does, then first ensure the new memory module is properly installed. Take ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) precautions or you may damage the new memory module and/or the system board.

To proceed compare the system beeps and diagnostics lights color and sequence to the Advanced Troubleshooting guide.

It is possible that the new memory is DOA (Dead On Arrival). Or there is a new fault on the system. If you have access to another compatible system, you may test the new and old memory modules. You may also swap the new and old memory modules to determine if the memory slot is at fault.

Lastly, if you remove the new memory module, does the system complete POST (Power On Self Test)?. If it does you may indeed have a DOA or incompatible part.

Want to kow how much ram I can add and where to buy it.

Hi

Dimension 2350 Series has two memory connectors and supports non-ECC PC2100 (266-MHz) DDR SDRAM memory modules. Supported memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB. The maximum (total) memory is 1GB.

Regarding where you could buy? I suppose you can check you local PC store. There is always eBay if you fancy.
