Intransitive verbs examples

Intransitive verbs are verbs that do not have an direct object.
For instance:
I threw the ball...has "the ball" as the direct objects that gets thrown. "throw" is a transitive verb in this sentence, NOT an intransitive verb.
I threw up....is an intransitive verb...with nothing having something done to it.

Here are some examples of intransitive verbs:
  • "I ran."
  • "It's raining."
  • "My dog died."
  • "Water evaporates when it's hot."
  • "You've grown since I last saw you!"
Wikipedia has a great article about this:
