Why did my treadmill stop abruptly while in use?

Your assumption is correct, if you have a household circuit breaker popping, you have a short or over current situation. If you have too many other things plugged into the same circuit you could be overloading that breaker. Depending on how your home is wired, you could have a few (older homes may have quite a few) outlets feed by a single breaker. If you have used the treadmill in that outlet (with the same items plugged into that circuit), the breaker it's self MIGHT be going bad (popping at too low of current).

For safety, inspect the power cord, for any damage, and be replaced if there is any.

If the power core is undamaged, I would try plugging the treadmill in another circuit. Choose an outlet that was not affected when the breaker popped. It you use an extension cord to get to another outlet, be sure it's rated for enough current. If it still pops the same breaker it's the same circuit, and you need to plug it in somewhere else (probably in another room). If a different breaker pops, then the short in in your treadmill. At this point you will need to know something about electricity to further isolate the short.

Treadmill not working and alarm sound when plug in

Does the display give you an error code. I'm having a similar issue but all LEDs on my display are lit with a constant beep and still have not gotten resolved. Have you tested the power source and fuse and the reset circuit breaker. I am waiting on a new reset circuit breaker part to come in and hopefully this fixes the issue. I will let you know.

your posting is a year old have you since got the treadmill fixed and what was it

Life Fitness 4000 repeatedly blows outlet circuit breaker

If there was a fuse in the treadmill it certainly wouldn't cause your main circuit breaker to blow. It sounds like the motor burnt out and shorted- which is causing your house circuit breaker to blow. There is a chance that the ball caused some other damage that is creating the short but my bet is on a burnt out motor. You would need to disassemble the unit and test for short circuits to verify.

Bosh SHY56A Dishwasher - Loud Pop and Smoke While

Hey Matt,
Dishwashers are not that complicated.. Turn off the breaker, pull the machine out - away from the wall..(there will/should be at lest two screws in the top edge holding it to the counter.. remove them first.. then pull it out until you can turn off the water supply.. When you are able to completely remove the washer, you should be able (possibly)to see what happened.. Check to see if the washer arm (inside the washer) will turn, if not.. replace the motor.., check to see if the pump belt will turn?.. it could be the pump drive motor or the pump its self..(remove the belt), then see if the motor will turn, check to see if the pump will turn.
.. White smoke makes me think that the belt was turning and the pump NOT turning..that will cause the belt to smoke.. and smell like burning rubber..If the pump will not turn. you have found t he problem... Also ..Check to make sure there is not a knife or some other object lodged in the drain or pump
NOW -- With all this.. Sometimes REPLACING the machine is actually cheaper than repairing the old one!!! Your wife deserves a NEW one!!

I will try to help you: Please use patience+carefully and basic tools+Dvom. How to Troubleshoot a Treadmill

Although most home treadmills are designed for easy operation, there are some common problems that are inevitable. The console may not display. Perhaps a loose or slipping running belt poses a safety hazard. Maybe the treadmill runs at an unpredictable speed. Those are just some of the things that can happen to bring your workout to a halt. While certain repairs will require the services of a professional who specializes in treadmill maintenance and repair, there are some basic repairs that you can do yourself.

Difficulty:

Moderate
Instructions

1.

    • 1

Clean and routinely maintain the running belt. The belt may be worn if the treadmill stops operating or trips the circuit breaker. Look for any tears in the belt. Test the belt by putting the treadmill at full incline. If it does not shut off, you may need to replace the belt. You can try lubricating it first, but the safest fix is simply to replace it.

    • 2

Tighten the running belt if it is loose. A belt can slip if there is too much friction. Be careful not to tighten the belt too much, though. You should be able to lift the belt at least 3 inches.

    • 3

Push the belt in the direction that it normally turns. Turn off the power before you start. If the belt is difficult to turn, there is high belt/deck friction. However, if the belt moves freely, that's not the problem.

    • 4

Examine the roller sleeve to see if it is centered on the running belt. If not, this could cause the belt to move to one side. Often a common problem with treadmills, you can try making adjustments yourself, but eventually you may need to replace the sleeve or roller.

    • 5

Stop the treadmill and immediately unplug the power cord from the outlet if you notice a burning smell. Overheating could be a sign that there is too much friction or a short in the wiring. Examine the belt and deck for any signs of wearing. If they check out alright, inspect the wiring. Replace any damaged parts as needed.

    • 6

Check to make sure that the power switch is on if you suddenly lose power. If this isn't the cause of the power loss, unplug the treadmill from the wall outlet and individually test the fuses, breakers and switches. Test the wall outlet first, as a fuse may have blown or a circuit breaker tripped.

    • 7

Allow the treadmill to run at a speed of 2.5 mph without anyone walking on it if you notice fluctuations in the speed. The speed should be constant. If not, there could be a problem with the motor.

    • 8

Test the motor using a fully charged lantern battery. The motor should still operate at slow speed.

    • 9

Replace the batteries in the panel if it dims. If the batteries aren

Unfortunately it sounds like the motor has burnt out and would require replacing.

As this treadmills come with a 10 year warranty on the motor if you've not had it for that long the you need to contact Horizon Fitness at the link below.

http://www.horizonfitness.co.uk/6/service/

If they're unable or unwilling to help you then please ask for further assistance and I'll see what I can do.

A replacement motor is in the region of $400 + fitting, but you could possibly fit it yourself.

We just started noticing that, when running the dryer, there's a smell coming from the breaker box. It smells like something electrical burning. The circuit breaker for the dryer was a little warm,...

A burning smell from an electrical panel is never a good sign. You did what a lot of people will do, and have the same results - the problem won't go away.

The circuit breaker relies on the mechanical squeeze pressure of its metal clips to maintain solid electrical contact with the panel's bus bars. The problem is likely due to a poor connection between the circuit breaker and the panel board bus bars. Over the years, the load presented by the dryer has heated those points, weakening the metal clips, changing the metal conductivity in some cases due to pitting and arcing. Changing the entire panel is probably not required - especially if there are other unused spaces for a circuit breaker to be installed.

If this is the case, I would remove the new QO230 circuit breaker and install it in a previously unused space in the panel, instead. The bus bar here should be undamaged (since it was never used before), as would be the new circuit breaker contact clips. The damage has been done to the bus bars at the original location, and that space should never be used again. The same holds true for the old QO230 circuit breaker. Install SQD blank plates in the panel cover to keep fingers from getting inside.

Next, a current reading should be taken with an ammeter or amprobe. A 30 amp breaker should have no more than 24 amps on each wire connected to it. If yours is more than that, something is wrong. If it is not more than 24 amps, measuring the voltage at the breaker and the dryer plug should be done as well. The voltage at the plug should not be more than about 3% lower at the plug.

If there is no more room in the panel, a secondary panel can be installed adjacent to and fed from the original panel, space permitting. Move the dryer circuit to the new panel and any two adjacent poles of circuits (for a 240 volt feed). The dryer circuit breaker space will be abandoned and the two additional poles will be fitted with a new QO circuit breaker to supply the new panel. Your electrician should do this work for you. This is "permit required" work and must be inspected for your safety.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Open dryer's cover and look that the belt is OK and in place (over the tub and the motor) Try to find out from where the burning smell comes from. Does the motor spin ? Let me know with your results and I will do my best to assist you with your problem.
