I cant persobonally help you but you can try the manufacturers web site, and call for a replacement belt. Possibly try Radio shack and make a make shift belt.

The unit is eating up the tape!

Generally speaking, there are two reasons this happens.

[1] tape recorders have to move tape past the record/playback heads at a highly consistent and accurate rate of speed. What makes this possible is a rubber "pinch" or pressure roller and a spinning metal spindle. Tape is routed between the roller and the spindle, and when the recorder is in RECORD or PLAY mode, the roller presses the tape against the spinning spindle, causing the tape to move from the feed reel to the takeup reel. When the pinch roller and/or the spindle become coated with oxide particles shed from old tapes, they get sticky and the thin tape will begin wrapping around one or the other. THE SOLUTION is to get some cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol and clean the oxide (brown from cheap tapes and dark gray from better tapes) from both of these parts.

[2] many tape recorders use rubber belts and pulleys to turn the feed reel and the takeup reel. If the tiny rubber belt that makes the take-up reel turn is stretched, it will not wind moving tape fast enough, which causes tape to bunch up. If this is the problem (you will not be able to see the belts without removing the recorder's outer case), then you might as well junk the recorder.

If you see that the part of the rubber drive roller that contacts the moving tape has a ring of brown or gray coating on it, you

Kustom Eyewitness VHS stops recording randomly.

The tape is not being pulled through the mechanism properly, and/ or the take up reel is not turning.
Motion is initiated by a motor and transferred by means of belts and pulleys to a clutch and drive assembly, which drives the reels. If any of these slip, the reels will fail to turn. I would replace the belts, idler and clutch assemblies and make sure the pulley and reel surfaces were extremely clean/

Capstan motors of Teac X7 rotate only manually (very stiff)

Allied electronics still has these small motors. They probably won't have the same part numbers though. You will need the printed information from the motor as well as accurate dimensions for an accurate comparison.
Good Luck.

If you are seeing tape collect inside the unit, the takeup side is not functioning correctly. This may be as simple as a belt change or idler change. This is not a repair I would suggest that you start with. The alignment of the tape is critical to proper functioning. I would geuss that the "link support mech" is probably just the belt/idler assembly or it is a "mode" switch. In any case, this unit should be sent in for repair. As part of that repair, the conformance to industry standards.
