PS-4280 is the new Seal or the direct replacement by Jandy #R0479400

Makup is Viton, which is much more durable. the 1000 has proven to be problematic.

The motors are usually dual voltage and factory connected for 230V. Are you sure it is properly wired and set for the correct incoming line voltage?

Have you checked for voltage at the pump motor? Did you wire it correctly? Is the motor 110V or 220V. Did you match the motor to your existing voltage?

SOURCE: I am having difficulty removing

For an impeller really stuck on the motor shaft you need to pull the motor thru-bolts and remove the rotor with the pump still attached from the stator. Lock the rotor in a vice and turn the impeller off with a large set of channel locks or a large strap wrench.

I have new impeller & seals for pb4-60 booster pump and need to know the orientation of ceramic/rubber seal should be inserted into impeller - rubber lip toward or away from threaded brass wijidigit?

Rubber toward the impeller,so when you screw the impeller back on the ceramic ant the graphite on the other half face each other. This is so the graphite wears smooth against the ceramic.

How do you change the shaft seal on a polaris pb4-60 pump?

BE CAREFUL YOU CAN BREAK THE SEAL PLATE BY OVER INSTALLING THE #1000 SEAL , TAKE 6 BOLTS OUT UNSCREW IMPELLER THE TAKE THE 4 BOLTS THAT HOLD THE SEAL PLATE TO THE MOTOR, KNOCK OUT OLD SEAL FROM SEAL PLATE USE SOCKET THAT FIT OVER SEAL. I USE A 1 1/4 SOCKET. THEN REPLACE CERAMIC IN IMPELLER (READ INSTRUCTIONS WITH SEAL) OR TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP MOTOR REPAIR GUY.. HAVE HIM DO IT . $ AROUND 40.00

Once the booster pump (for polaris 280) is turned on, water starts to leak badly from the front.

There is a bad seal and/or gasket in the pump allowing it to leak. It is usally the seal. Take it to a local electric motor or pump shop and the repair is probably under $50 total. You could also buy the parts to try it yourself, but the seal that pump takes (AS-1000) is a little tricky to seat properly. Besides, if your bearings are also damaged, the shop could fix that as well.

Leaking from pump, is it usually the o-ring or something else?

Replacing the entire pump for a broken / leaky seal is a bit overkill - kinda like being advised to replace an engine when its your oil filter seal leaking. Poolcenter.com sells a Polaris "Go Kit" consisting of the three primary o-rings/seals that need periodic replacement as they dry-out and crack, promoting leaks, during non-operating months. Its called the Go-Kit 71 (for about $15.00) plus shipping. Replacement is fairly straight-forward if you know how to disassemble the pump - not rocket science but definately engineering.
