Reset the Drum Cartridge
NOTE: This solution should only be used if you have already replaced your Drum Cartridge and the Drum Light is still on. If you have not replaced your Drum Cartridge, refer to Related Items at the bottom of this page.
If the Drum Cartridge has already been replaced and the Drum Cartridge Light still remains lit, the Drum Cartridge needs to be reset. To view an animated guide of the Drum Cartridge Reset procedure, refer to Related Items at the bottom of this page, or follow the steps below.
Turn the power off.
Press the Release Button to open the top half of the copier.
Remove the Toner Cartridge by pressing the green Release Button and pulling the Toner Cartridge straight out.
Set the Toner Cartridge off to the side, out of the way.
CAUTION: Be careful not to touch the red shiny surface of the Drum.
Remove the Drum Cartridge.
Face the end of the Drum Cartridge that goes into the copiers. You will see a series of gears.
Hold the Drum Cartridge so that the large black gear at the end of the Drum is to your left. There will be an off-white gear above and to the right of the black gear. Below that is a set of three chocolate-colored gears across the middle. Directly below the middle chocolate-colored gear is an ivory white gear. To the immediate right of the white gear is a small black gear. This small black gear will be the gear to focus on.
At the top of this gear is a Retainer Clip holding it in place, then the gear itself. At the very bottom or base of this gear is a flat black Reset Flag. Some describe this Reset Flag as looking like a flag or the blade of a hockey stick. The Reset Flag may be partially obscured by the ivory white gear.
With your fingernail or a pen, rotate the Reset Flag counter clockwise so that it is next to the third or far right chocolate gear.
Reinstall the Drum Cartridge.
Reinstall the Toner Cartridge.
Close the top half of the copier.
Turn the power on.
The Drum Cartridge Light should now be gone and there should be a '1' in the LED Display. If the Drum Cartridge Light is still lit, repeat all above steps.
Did an instruction manual or (1 sheet, quick instruction guide) come with your computer.
If so, you will be able to use the Manual or guide to show you how the printers cartridges are inserted.
IF Not THEN
You will have to contact Canon via their website Contact Form as they do not have the Printer listed in either the Australian or US website Printer List (which means it is a discontinued item). They should still be able to email you the manual however.
To get to the Australian Canon website Contact form, use the link below:
I just noticed in the link to your forum item that additional text appears that does not appear in the item itself. It looks like you are getting a message telling you to press Enter to align your print carriage. This is a common step after you replace an ink cartridge. According to HP.com, here's what you are supposed to do:
"A message will appear in the front panel display requesting that the ink cartridges be aligned. Press Enter to start the cartridge alignment. Two pages will print. Following the instructions printed on the second page, place the first page on the scanner glass in the lower-right corner and then press Enter to finish aligning the cartridges. Remove the page from the scanner glass when complete".
There should be a user guide on the disc that came with the machine. There is also a PDF on this site for it.
On the cartridge replacement lift the top and wait till the cartridges come to the rest position, there should be a guide there, but if not pull them down and fit new ones - they should push up into place. Close the lid, the machine will then reset if you have done it right.
PS make certain you remove the orange film from the new carts!
For HP 5510 series for replacing the cartige, you need to lift the door just above the paper tray. Pull out the old cartidge, hold it so you can see the way it is inserted and click in gently in the same way.
