Sansa clip for MP3 music only, cheap & lightweight with great sound- better than the bigger Sansa 250 I bought. I love my 30GB Zune, but it isn't available anymore- I lucked out and got one of the last ones for $99
Generally I don't like players that are tied to a subscription or 3rd party affiliations like the Sansas I bought from Bestbuy. But then I have about 1,000 rare vinyl records from my old school DJing days- so I don't care to buy the tunes I already have and use a hardware device to convert my tunes to MP3 and load them from my pc or burn them to play on a MP3 disc player.
Most players seem to have subscription shovelware installed, so there's no getting around that. but some are worse than others
such as the Sansa 250 2GB from BestBuy that I ended up removing the BestBuy version and reinstalling a clean Sansa firmware. If I would have bought the same unit with out all the promotional **** on it I would have enjoyed it and used it more and not wasted my time uninstalling and reinstalling the firmware.
It was a mess- the "radio" downloaded a bunch of **** that nearly filled up the whole memory so there was no room for the MP3s I actually wanted to load. The 'free' subscription only lasted a short while and I was unable to delete from the menu without being connected to the pc (this was restored by uninstalling the promotional version). I didn't use it everyday and found myself unable to listen to the MP3s without "renewing their licenses" on the days I decided to listen to it. After uninstalling and reinstalling the clean firmware I regained functionality.
My recommendation is to get a name brand player after you try them at a retailer to decide which suits your need best for screen, weight, size, capacity & budget. Look for one that is expandable with a microSD card since the cards are swappable and capacity is getting cheaper everyday- much cheaper than buying a new player with more GB. Then shop for price and the subscription bloatware on the units you look at. Don't overlook online retailers like NewEgg etc.
Please-Don't waste your money on a GPX anything or some other off brand that will fail within a week if you ever can get them to work at all. You know the saying "you get what you pay for?" - well, wiith GPX you get much less than you pay for.
