Question about Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-200mm lens
This is an indication of a short in the DC to DC board in the bottom of the camera, either from a floating screw or impact damage. Unfortunately, Nikon stopped selling parts over a year ago to everyone. You can remove the bottom cover (remove back cover first) by gently prying up the rubber covering screws on the bottom. Pry up just a small section and then put some alcohol at the attached edge and move it back and forth slowly with a removal tool. If you just rip off the rubber it will stretch and will not fit back properly. Check the board very carefully with a magnifier. There is a small surface mount IC with 6 pins that usually blows on this board. You may be able to find the board on EBay but they have been drying up on Nikon parts.

My guess is the batteries are probably no good. All batteries will only last so long and it also depends how often they are keep charged and discharged. Basically all batteries require some kind of maintenance (recharging / discharging).
