Question about Canon VIXIA HG20 DVD Blu-ray Camcorder

Open Question

Canon Vixia HG20 Led Screen does not work

I have had my new Canon Vixia HG20 over a year now and I do not use it that often so it's still relatively new. Lately I have been having problems with my camcorder; When I switch it on the camcorder's power light comes on and the lens cover opens, indicating that the camcorder is on but when I flip open the LCD screen, I see no pictures whether in record mode or playback mode. Any ideas what might be wrong with my camcorder?

SOURCE: Canon hd Vixia HG20 will not power on

Sounds like your camcorder is toasted. Before sending that to Canon for repair, try the tiny Reset button on it. Its gotta be there somewhere. The other thing is connect the unit to a TV and power it up, maybe your display is the one that is not working. Use either the component cable or the composite (old-style) cable that came with it. Give it a try.

SOURCE: HG20 auto lens cover will not open on the

The gears in the lens cover mechanism in these cameras are susceptible to debris. This will require disassembling the camera and removing the front case to repair. This can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem due to the fact that the camera will need to be partially disassembled and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Canon Vixia HG20 broken cable to view screen

Had the same problem with my HG20. Couldn't find a way to remove the housing and Canon won't tell you how to do it. I sent it in to Canon and it cost me $250 to fix it. You already have the cable so it might knock off a couple bucks. It's crazy what you have to pay for a camera to be repaired that's no longer under warranty. But you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. The service is great though. I sent mine in and they paid the shipping to and from their office. I got it back within a week of sending it in.

Video files come from Canon Vixia hg20 are in AVCHD format and this is a format which is difficult to be imported and edited by FCP and iMovie. So you have to convert AVCHD files to other easily edited video format, like FCP and iMovie preferred MOV format.

You can use this program to open and play most movie formats transport streams; edit them with crop and Trim;export them to QuickTime, AVI, DV and MPEG-4 files with more than professional quality, so you can easily import them in a DVD authoring tool, and use them with many other applications or devices.
