This has so many variables...is the serpentine belt the original? It can be hardened with age, quiets when warmed up...could be tensioner pulley, this noise could come and go however...also is your weather very cold? If equipped with an automatic transmission, the age can exhibit unique cold sounds...if tranny never serviced, add a bottle of Lucas Oil Transmission Stabilizer to tranny fluid...read instructions, you do not have to drain anything...This is highly recommended for cleaning tranny. Hope this helps.

2001 sunfire start good cold but not when engine is hot

It sounds like you have a "flooding" problem, where you are getting too much fuel on the warm start. It takes more fuel to start a cold engine than a warm one. By holding the pedal the pedal to the floor, you are telling the computer to do a "clear flood" operation, and that lets you start the car. The culprit is probably the Coolant Temperature Sensor. If this is faulty, it will tell the computer that that the coolant (thus the engine) is much cooler than it really is. This results in the engine flooding when warm. It may also run rough at idle after warm start since it is still getting too much fuel. You will also notice a massive loss of fuel economy. Replace the coolant temperature sensor.

Engine will not idiol when you stop at light or when you start it up after it is warmed up

sounds like it could be your TPS sensor, or your fuel sending unit, that once it gets warm it becomes faulty.

Noise from engine or transmission cant tell

The sound could also be from the fuel pump. This comes on a cold engine. The way to sort it is to change your driving technique. Do not accelerate too much till the temp gauge starts showing the change. for the first minute or two if you do not accelerate too much then you may not hear the sound the rest of the day. Let the engine/fuel pump warm up a little and then you drive your normal self.

Noise from engine

Check your belt. Belts will whine when they're worn, cracked or glazed. I hope this was helpful. It's not normal. Take care and God bless.

Does the noise come from the engine or transmission, Pull the dipstick tube from the transmission when it is warm and smell it for a burnt smell.Check oil dipstick for any water or white paste.

Will not start when engine warm

Sounds more like your ignition module is getting hot and not working. I'd go there first before replacing the ECM. You can remove the ignition module and most NAPA stores have the ability to test them for you. Make sure they test it at least 5 times. This way it'll simulate starting and stopping.
