Question about GE JVM1090WW Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I cannot remover the jvm 1090 microwave from the wall.  I have removed the top screws and it will not come free from the tabs on the back wall support.

I looked at the installation manual. I tried to reverse engineer the install. The specific problem is that I have taken out the top screws. The microwave does not move after that. It is clearly on the tabs on the wall mount. I am unable to move the microwave off the wall mount to remove it. I checked the top vent and it had clearance.

It seems that it is stuck on the tabs. I might try to push down on the front as opposed to trying to lift the back to get it off.

How to remove ge spacemaker xl

You want to take the microwave off the wall, is that correct. 1st unplug the microwave--plug should be in the cabinet over the microwave. Next--in the same cabinet you should see 2 or 3 phillips head screws with big heads going through the bottom of the cabinet into the microwave top. Have someone hold up on the microwave while you remove the screws. They are about 3 inches long. Once the screws are out, the microwave should tilt forward and downward at the front. The back of the MW sits on 4 tabs on the wall mount plate so to get it off completely you have to lift the back up slightly off the tabs about 1 inch. Feed the power cord down through the cabinet and you are done.

Cant remove kenmore over the range from 1984

The unit has two long installation screws located behind the upper grill. To remove the grill there are 4 small #2 Phillips screws holding it on. After loosening the installation screws, the unit tilts down and you lift the back free from a hanging plate attached to the wall.

Sound like a magnetron go to bad; here are the steps we took to replace it

Warning: You are not an electrician or repairman, following steps are from my experience. You should be careful while handling capacitor and other parts.

Unplug Microwave at least few hours before
Remove Microwave from above oven range by somebody holding Microwave from ground unscrew the screws from cabinet
Remove top cover of Microwave
Make sure to keep screws correctly in a place you remember what goes where
Make sure capacitor is discharged, GE manual inside Microwave says capacitor will discharge within 30 seconds once it is off. As a precaution check the voltage in capacitor to make sure there is no electricity
Remove other panels around magnetron part
You need to remove lot of connecting wires, should be careful to note down what goes where
If possible take digital photos to refer back when you put everything back together
You may need to remove transformer to easily remove and replace Magnetron. If you can't remove Magnetron easily then remove bottom panel of the Microwave and remove transformer
Now it should be easy to remove magnetron
Replace new magnetron and screw it. We had to put one outside part from old magnetron to new one because new one was missing that. Check to make sure both old and new one are exactly the same
Make sure put all wires properly back
Now put transformer back and screw it
Put capacitor panel in place and screw it
This might be a good time to test the Microwave to make sure it works fine now
Now cover the top panels and start to screw everything
Once everything assembled put the Microwave back above range put screws from top

I have chefmate microwave and suddenly stopped working. it is showing 2:50 code on the screen only...it was working fine and dont know what happened to it and touch pad is not working..how do i make it...

HELLO.

The code on the screen indicate electric panel fault resulting from the touchpad malfunction.

The touch pad on your microwave oven acts as the brain of the appliance. It not only contains the buttons that you use to enter cooking settings and times, but also controls the function of the entire microwave. If the touch pad malfunctions or breaks completely, the microwave will cease to function. In this instance, the broken touch pad must be removed and a new touch pad must be installed, to restore functionality to the microwave.

1 Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet.
2 Remove the two screws, located on the front or top of the grill at the top of the microwave.
3 Pull the grill off of the microwave.
4 Remove the mounting screw from the top of the control panel.
5 Lift the control panel up and out to loosen. Look behind the control panel to ensure there are no metal tabs securing the control panel in place. If there are metal tabs, gently rotate the control panel to free the tabs.
6 Transfer the wires from the old control panel to the new control panel one at a time to ensure that the wires are properly installed.
7 Install the new control panel into the microwave and secure using the mounting screw that was removed.
8 Replace the grill from the top of the microwave and secure it using the screws that were removed.
9 Plug the microwave back into the wall outlet.
Thanks.

Where is the internal light bulb in the sears elite microwave convection oven

Hi there, I'm just running out the door, but came across your question after checking my solutions, and thought I'd give you a quick run through on where most lights bulbs on microwaves are usually located. One, they're either on the outer left side of the microwave (look for 4 phillip head screws within a cover approx. 3''wide x 4" long). If not there, then it's located on the top of the oven. Remember, before you remove anything...first, remove the plug from the wall outlet (receptacle) Again, you'll be removing 4 phillip head screws. Then, after removing the top cover (sometimes, you'll have to slide one way or the other, then lift) look again for the 4 phillip head screws within a cover approx. 3" W x 4" L. Remove this cover, unscrew bulb, and then replace with the same bulb. Its best to remove the bulb first, then take it with you to your nearest appliance store. This will help make it easier for the clerk helping you. Then, after you replace and secure all your covers and screws, and are completely done...you can plug your oven back into the wall outlet.  Then turn it on to check and see if your lights back on and in operating order. I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any more questions regarding this matter, feel free to contact me again. Jim

How do I remove an old wall mounted Microwave.

I just removed mine this morning and was having the same problem, though mine did have the screws above going into the unit. You may have to pop the front vent cover off to locate the screws going to the wall bracket, if so remove those. Also, there are 2 tabs on the bottom of the wall bracket that the back bottom edge of the microwave slip into, keeping the microwave from being pulled forward. Tilt the microwave slightly forward and push the bottom back edge of the microwave up to clear the tabs. Hope this helps.

GE Microwave/Convection JVM 1090 oven won't reach temperature

You probably have a bad thermistor.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

(At that site, that part is misspelled as "thermister" for your model).

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Accessing some components for testing will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

1985 GE Microwave Spacesaver Uninstall

A possible solution:
I was facing the same problem with my (1998?) GE JVM48006. In this models case, the microwave was housed in a support cabinet that was fastened to the wall behind. First, I removed the phillips head screws behind the louvered vent above the microwave. Then, I removed the screws of the slanted bottom panel that give access to servicing the stove top lights (underneath the unit) which were integrated into the support cabinet (separate from the microwave itself). On the right side was an electrical wire harness hidden behind a cover that had to be unplugged (similar to a car wiring harness). Then, I removed (4) 5.1/2 inch hex head bolts that secured the unit through the cabinet above. Now I was able to slide the microwave out towards the front (with some rocking back and forth). All that was left then was to remove the support housing (fastened to the back wall).

Ge spacemaker microwave jvm/1650

Mmmm it's so easy,
First disconect the power, take the cover off, moslitly there would be 5 screws and two tab's on the top.
inside on the right hand side the magnetron it's a sylver box measuring about 4 in x 4 in x 5 in. It will have a plasic cover moslitly that would have to be remove first then on the magnetron there is 4 crews and one connector.
It should fall downard after.
If you have a power supply after the secondary , that may also be your problem.

Regards

Bob
