Head Gasket failure. Go online to mm, Amazon and search for a used Bentley Manual for your car. I have three VW's so trust me on this one.

Vw golf losing coolant through the overflow (expantion tank) when cooling down. thermestat changed. not overheating even at high speed. no water in the oil or oil in the water. the oil is normal colour ....

If there is definately no air in the system and everything is working properly have you changed the pressure cap on the expansion bottle? Very unusual but if everything else is ok then it might be worth a shot. Caps have a pressure release mechanism biult into them.

I have a 90 civic ex 1.6 and it was mixing water in oil and blowing antifreeze out the exhaust when i got it. pulled head and the gassket was blown. replaced it and the problem remained the same. replaced...

To check the block, you can magna flux it or have the machine shop do this for you. Also, was the head a new or used head or reconditioned? Is it warped and in need of shaving?

Perhaps, the new head gasket is leaking, even though it has been replaced.
I know it's a lot of work to get the Honda head gaskets to work right.

Sounds like you have a blown head gasket or a cracked block, pull the plugs and see witch one is wet that will be the cylinder that is leaking.

Oil in expansion (coolant) reservoir Golf 1.4 98

replace the oil cooler first before you change the head gasket ,but normally a 10 year old vehicle often has gasket fatigue ,not made like a good old fashioned copper head gasket ,they rarely went wrong

Thermostat for VW golf 1996 The temp gauge raised to almost 220 but water temp light did not flush at all. Is it possible that the car has no thermostat?

Hi,
Usually if a vehicle has NO thermostat the engine runs too cold for to long. So I suspect your VW has a thermostat. Suggest you check to make sure you have ample antifreeze, and that the fan is working properly. If those two things are O.K. then a blocked radiator or water pump issue will need to be checked out. With a 50/50 mix of antifreeze 220 degrees will not harm your engine. Good Luck.
