Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a mintek dvd player combo. When the dvd player went I called in my local repair man who said the dvd player could not be repaired or replaced. Is this true? Also my child played with my remote than I could not turn the tv up or down with the remote or manually on the tv. I went to a site and bought a new remote hoping to fix the problem. It didn't. I have comcast and never was able to program their remote to work the sound. Comcast customer service said not all tv's are programable with their remotes even though Mintek has a comcast code my tv would not program. Consequently when my tv sound did go up I had to use two remotes. The Mintek remote for the sound and the comcast remote for all other functions.Like I said now the sound does not work manually or with the brand new Mintek remote I just bought. Can you help? Please do not tell me to do the obvious hitting the tv button on my comcast remote. I want someone to respond to this question who will stick with the peoblem until it is solved.

Hi,

Lets talk about DVD Player.More likely he might have told you the correct information in "Incorrect Way". Every machine is repairable in this world. Lets suppose, if your DVD is not working, it might be an issue with Weak laser diode in the optical pickup head or Dirty discs or Dirty lense over optical pick up head or Defective digital decorder, can't read the data on the disc or Badly aligned head due to dropping or bumping the player mechanism........

So, rather than spending than huge bucks, it's much better to invest in a new one. Most of the DVD players are not replacable. The cost of new one is much less than the cost to repair it.

Now , to talk about Remote, Have you tried to troubleshoot? As you have purchased the Comcast, That's compatible with Minitek.

The only thing that came to my mind, Is your button working on Comcast Remote?

You have the code. If the code is working, all functions would work until and unless you have an issue with button and this is a common issue with comcast remotes. There are nor branded as Apple or Sony.

The best option would be to take the remote to the nearest service center. There is no point of DIY with your remote.

Any further help, let me know.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Mintek DVD LCD combo

There's nothing you can do. The DVD unit and the TV are both controlled by IC2 bus lines that work together. You will have to have the unit repaired or invest in another set. My recommendation is " Never buy a TV with a built in DVD player". They do not last. That is from a professional stand point.

Mintek dvd player won't charge

The battery is bad and is not repairable. You can find parts for this player including the battery on e-bay at with web address. (http://catalog.ebay.com/Mintek-MDP-1815-Portable-DVD-Player_W0QQ_fclsZ1QQ_pcatidZQQ_pidZ55062847QQ_tabZ2) copy this web address and paste it into to your browsers address bar, it will take you to a page of this model dvd player for sale. This units are either in parts or whole units. This is the best chance to get a replacement battery at a reasonable price. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Another Mintek Question...

To my knowledge this is not an issue that can be fixed completely without obtaining a new motherboard/DVD player and replacing them altogether. Another member, Ori, posted that it might be possible to trace the handshake signal the built in DVD player uses to communicate with the TV's motherboard. The correct signal would "unfreeze" the motherboard allowing for a fully functional TV. Unfortunately I haven't the time or skill to do that.

As far as the availability of replacements, I have seen the whole sets go on ebay quite frequently, but they are usually ones that have this same problem. Apparently Mintek went bankrupt some time ago per what little information I was able to find out about them, so that cuts any hope of a new replacement as well.

DVD was stuck, removed it, but now TV display is "Open"

You are having a all to common problem with this unit. The TV will need to be seviced. If you bought it from QVC they will give you a number to call if it is still in warranty. If not call the place where you bought it for help. At the present time Mintek has gone bankrupt. Another service company is making the warranty repairs.
