Question about Western Digital 1TB My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive Refurbished WD 1TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive
The external hard drive encountered an improper ejection from computer while viewing a file (movie) from it. After I connected it again the computer doesn't recognize it or it simply just doesn't let me open any files in it.

Does you drive make any sounds like these?
If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it.
If not - try to remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it directly to the computer to recover your files.

I had a similar problem with my WD passport 320GB. When I connected it to my laptop it never showed up on My Computer even though the blue light on the hard drive came on.
Here is what I did: Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Manage" and then "Disk Management",. you should see your WD hard drive listed. then click on "change driver letters and paths" and change it from the listed to another drive. I changed mine from G to F drive and it worked for me.

1. Right click on My Computer > Manage;
2. On the new window click on Disk Management, on the right side, right click in the USB Volume and chose "Change Drive Letter and Path..."
3. In the new window click on "Add..." to assign a letter to your USb drive.

Sounds like to me you already did the troubleshooting. If you cannot get the drive to function properly on another computer and it has the same symptoms, then logic would say that it is your drive. Note to also use a different cable to make sure it isn't the cable. I would try it on at least two more computers to make sure, hopefully with at least XP and Vista.
