Why my fat max battery won't charge up

Motorcycle batteries don't last long. If you mean you put a charger on it and it doesn't take or hold a charge, well, a new battery is in order. If you mean the motorcycle doesn't charge the battery while running, then you need to trace back, check fuses, look for kinked or broken wires, check/chang your voltage regulator (common problem) and/or get into the alternator. Spend a couple bucks on a service manual. Amazon has always taken care of me at a great price, it's the best $$$ you'll ever spend.

How to start harley fat boy after long storage?

If it is carburetted you may have had fuel dry up and contaminate, plug carburetor jets etc. IN any case even if EFI the fuel is likely stale and you need to drain the fuel tank and put in fresh fuel. Did you have your mufflers plugged or did rodents get into them and build nests?? Is you battery dead. Re charge it to hold at least 12.6VDC and have it load tested. If you did not have it on a battery maintainer it is likely shot. Does it do anything, any lighting on, any click when you try to start it etc. POST a lot more information if you wantmore definitive assisatnce etc.

93 harley battery wont hold a charge

battery could be no good so have it charged and load tested and then you may have a key off abnormal drain on the battery due to a shorted regulator or accessorizes. Remove the main fuse to see if it still drains and if so something that should not be key off draining is the probelm amd if the battery still goes flat you need a new battery most likely.

Battery charge

As far as "the battery is getting fat", probably from excess internal pressure, most likely from over charging.

Your voltage regulator is probably going out/already gone.

Its a 1990 sportster and both the front and rear brake are not working i'm charging the battery and how hard is it to change the strator

To change the starter motor is easy. This describes the Hitachi Starter Motor removal and replacement. The Bendix type is similar but fatter.
Disconnect battery!
Remove the fat battery lead from the side if the motor and hold out of the way.
Remove the nut holding the chrome cover on the motor.
Undo the two threaded bolts that hold the motor on and remove the motor.
Re fitting is the reverse.

Remove the brake callipers as a unit and inspect for damage, corrosion and pad replacements.

Hope that helps.

Recently having problems with my 2000 Fatty not holding charge. What should stator be putting out on voltage meter? Voltage meter climbs as rpms go up, I would presume that this indicates stator ok? Bike...

First, take your battery somewhere and have it load tested. Fat Boys are tough on batteries as the battery sits in the "horseshoe" oil tank and is subjected to high temperatures due to the hot oil in the tank. Battery life is typically two years although I've seen some go longer and some not last that long. Have the battery tested before you start spending money.

To check the stator, you unplug the regulator at the engine case. Down inside the plug you'll see some electrical connectors. Connect a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) to these connectors (one lead to eac pin) and put the meter in the 50 volt or higher range AC voltage. This is important that your meter be set to measure AC voltage because at this point, the voltage is indeed an Alternating Current voltage coming out of your alternator. Start the engine and bring it to a high idle. You should be reading over 20 volts AC. The book says that you should read 12-18 volts per 1000 engine RPM. If your engine is turning 2000 rpm, your meter should read 24-36 volts AC.

To test the regulator, first charge your battery to a full charge. Then connect your DVOM across the battery, red to positive, black to negative. Put the meter in the 20 volt DC range. Start the bike and bring it to a high idle. The voltage will start at somewhere around 12.5 volts and climb to about 14.5-15 volts. This would indicate that the regulator MAY be alright.

Now, have you changed any of the lights on your Fat Boy? I've seen people change and add lights to the point where their alternator could no longer put out the current necessary to handle the load. If this is the case, you may need a higher out charging system.

I don't know where you're located but $260 seems quite high for a voltage regulator.

Say it in English,not British

1. Turn the unit on.
2. At the same time, press and hold the "G" button and the power button.
3. While continuing to hold down the "G" button, release the power button.
4. Release the "G" button.
5. If you have done this correctly, the unit will power on. This procedure will switch back and forth between lbs. and kg.
