You killed the laser.

Did you update the firmware while there was a disc inside the machine?

How do I play a blu ray DVD on my PS3. I am not hooked to the internet. It is saying that I need a new encryption key. What can I do to watch this Dvd?

You need to update your PS3 software, which should also update your encryption keys. I understand that you don't have internet, but do you have a friend, etc. with internet where you could take your console to?
The reason for this: encryption codes are updated to enhance security of the discs (in an attempt to prevent copying, etc) but also new codes are added when new movies are released.
Unfortunately, these updates are periodic, and will probably need to be done once or twice a year. Good luck.

I need to renew my ps3 BD encryption key to watch blue ray movie

Some newer blu ray discs require that your system be updated to view the movie. This is due to a security "encryption" set by various movie companies. (they are trying to prevent people from copying their movies).
If your PS3 is connected to the internet this should be done automatically when trying to view the movie.
hope it helps
~good luck!

It says"Perform a system software update to renew the encryption key"?My ps3 wont play blue ray dvd?

your PS3 software needs to be updated in order to play blu-ray.

Its explained on this page:

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/2_60/video/aacs.html

On that page click on the link that says "update the system software".

On the next page it will explain to you the different ways to upgrade the software on your ps3.

Updated System, system won't recognize game or blu ray

I have a solution.

You go to the settings on your PS3 a 'Restore PS3 System'. Once clicked, choose the 'Full Format' This DOES work. I had the same problem with my PS3 last week, (10th June) so i phoned up Sony Support and they told me to do this.

I thought that i would have to replace my Blu-Ray drive but never had to because of this! Theres a few downsides to this....1. its takes approx 28hours to complete and 2. it will delete everything from your hard drive: music, vids, demos, game saves the lot. But if you have an external hard drive then you can back up everything onto there, then do the restore. Once you have done it you can then put all your backed up data back on.

Plus you can still get all your purchased downloads from PS store back and it also keeps all your online activity i.e your level on COD4-5 an fifa ultimate team is still there ect. Other option which will have the same affect but wont take so long is to format the PS3 again found in the settings menu on the PS3. I would suggest to Restore PS3 System before spending money on replacing the drive when you might not need to.

Note: Again, this advice was given to me by the Sony Support line when i had the same problem on 10th June 09. I Phoned the PS3 line to confirm that i needed the Blu-Ray drive replacing, which to my suprise i didnt!

Ps3 not reading discs!

If you keep on getting this problem you will need to send it in to get it fixed, or you can actually readjust the laser from home.
To do this you can use a good repair guide.
