My whole house fan has been having problems. The motor gets very hot and turns off. After cooling, it can work again (though I am not keeping it on!) The whole house fan is a Sears fan. The original...

Ada, I think you have already diagnosed the problem. It's the Leviton timer. For whatever reason, it can not handle the fan motor without over heating. The best indicator, was the melted hot wire. Perhaps the switch was defective from the start. I suspect the timer was rated for a ceiling fan and not a whole house fan.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Evaparator fan motor not working what can be the problem.

Hi,
The problem could be the defrost timer/control board or a bad fan motor....
Check for power at the motor... if there is power then the motor is bad...
if no power then the controlboard or the defrost timer control is bad...

I have a 1976 model Sears Coldspot that is making a girgling/grinding sound from the freezer area. I remove the fan cover plate and the fan was rotating ok but every so often it would hesitate and slow...

if the temp has risen, check and make sure its not stuck in defrost mode,if it is advance the defrost timer ahead so the compressor again starts and runs, the only other thing would be the motor that you said is slowing down is getting noisy bearings and make that grinding sound, the gurgling noise could be just freon/refrigerant moving through the evaporator coils in the freezer

TAKE THE BACK COVER OFF THE REFRIGERATOR. SET UP A COOLING FAN TO COOL COMPRESSOR. YOUR CONDENSOR FAN MOTOR HAS STOPPED WORKING.

REplace the fan. The fan is most likely bent and will continue to have problems until it is replaced. You can get it at repairclinic.com

Noise

I believe you will trace this noise back to the evaporator fan motor inside the freezer making the noise. If you agree that the noise is coming from the evaporator fan motor inside the freezer it is not the motor that is responsible. Your model has a Main Mother Board on the outside rear wall of the freezer down low (about 10 screws hold square cover on over board). The Main Board is causing your noisy evaporator fan motor. Use caution when handling any electronic circuit board. Follow antistatic cautions. Static electricity in your body can damage these valuable circuit boards.
