Make sure your iBook is plugged in to the wall. Hold down the power button for a few seconds. If that doesn't work, try holding down Command (the Apple key)-Option-P-R (hold all four keys down) and press the power button. Be sure to hold the power button for a few seconds whenever you turn it on.
If that doesn't work, try resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU). This is kind of a "last resort," according to Apple. Don't do this all the time.
- Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then
releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the
fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Press the Power button to restart the iBook computer.
If you have a very old iBook, you may have to unplug your iBook, remove the battery, and
- Press and release the reset button located above the
Audio/Video port on the left side of the iBook (Dual USB) computer by
inserting the end of a paper clip into the small hole and gently
pressing the switch once.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC power adapter.
- Put the battery back in the computer.
- Press the Power button to restart the iBook computer.
(If it still doesn't start, do you hear the fans going?)
