Question about Dream Maker Spas Dream Maker Ez Spa Hot Tub

1 Answer

GFCI in primary power cord keeps going off turning off the hot tub.

I have Dream Maker Big EZ Spa. I turn it on and wait a few seconds I can get jets going but then a minute or so later the GFCI on the main cord will go off and turn the hot tub off. Any suggestions? I have no idea even where to go for support. I bought the tub through Spa Depot about 1 1/2 years ago. It's worked perfectly up until now. Help?

As mentioned: Many things could be the problem. You need to have diagnostics performed by someone who is knowledgeable about tripping GFCI's. If your GFCI is tripping, or consistently tripping, don't assume that the GFCI is bad, as MANY do!!! It may be just fine and is ONLY doing its JOB!! If it is doing its job, you have a short. Not necessarily do you have a impeded water flow problem. GFCI means Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. It reads, and constantly monitors for Leakage of Voltage to Ground. If sensed, it will trip, immediately. Not that common for GFCI's to go bad in such a short time. Look for the short to ground, first. 2nd - a GFCI will also work as a regular breaker, tripping when there is an Overload. Most people make a mistake that think that a pump overworks or labors when the filter is dirty or pressure side water flow is impeded, this is not the case, the pump actually does not work as hard, so although this is a problem that needs corrected, it is most likely not your problem. Again, look for a the circuit that is shorted. The unplugging suggestion is a good one. With all unplugged or disconnected, plug them back in one at a time. But instead of replacing the fuse only, replace that item that the fuse is supposed to protect! That is the culprit. Most likely, as history has shown in my experience, the most likely culprit will be the heater element, then the blower, Ozonator, pumps. That is the order of problematic items when GFCI's trip. Good Luck

This could be a number of things. First make sure your water flow is not impeded. Clean your filters or replace them check that there is no debris in the intakes or returns. There are fuses for each item from your power pack, you can unplug everything, lights, blower, pumps etc.. plug them in one at a time and when the GFCI trips that is the fuse you need to replace. Lastly, you could have a siezed motor or a bad GFCI for this you may want to call out a professional hot tub service company in your area.

SOURCE: my dream maker spa does not work. there is

I have the same problem with a one week old x400. It was working fine last night but about 8 hours later water temp has dropped 4 degrees and the pump will not turn on, I can hear the relay in the control box make a ticking sound when I press the pump icon on the control center but the pump does not start. Is there a fuse in the control box?

SOURCE: Dream Maker spa GFCI plug was all corroded. I cut

Did you make sure you observed the correct polaity on the cord? The white wire should go to the silver screw on the cord cap. The black wire should go to the gold terminal (brass) and the Green wire should go to the Green screw. If the plug was corroded, is it possible that the GFCI is also corroded? They aren't that expensive and you could replace the GFCI yourself if you're sure you can locate the circuit breaker and turn it off.

Yes, the jets will run anytime the heater is operational. This is neccessary to keep the plumbing from melting, and also to evenly distribute the heated water. Most hot tubs only take 4-5 hours to heat up, but the easy spa takes very long because they use a very small heating element. Usually only 1.5KW.

Your heating element is going to ground and 'leaking' current. The GFCI is picking it up and you will need a new element.
