Question about Sub-Zero Refrigerators
It just turns off every 1-4 days. I press start then it goes for another 1-4 days and shuts off. It stays cold and the thermostat can be set up warmer or colder. No water in tray in back of condenser and condenser blades are clean.
Thank you for your information, are you getting a flashing display showing service on the screen? I the past I have found the service light has shown before the unit shuts down. Your unit has thermistors that need information from the compartment to continue to run. The computer defaults when the information is not present and then shuts down. With this being said, the thermistors could be the cause of this issue you have. There are two in each compartment, one on the evaporator other in the compartment itself. If you have a broken wire or corroded, the computer can't detect the compartment is running and will shut done. Normally will flash service within 20 mins of start up. Look into this and get back to me if you need more information.

Your regrigator may need regassing or there is a fan that pushes the cold air, it may need servicing, the problem is condensation, it cloud also be a small leak, call an AC specialest

Higher settings always equal 'colder.'
I've never seen a refrigerator/freezer that was in good condition and didn't perform well with the control set to only half of the scale available.
I don't know how old your unit is, or if it has ever been moved, but you may have lost coolant over time or the fan that forces air through the condenser coils under the cabinet may not be running.
You should feel some warm air coming through the front grill while the compressor is running. If you don't, then the coils are unable to dispose of the heat collected from inside the cabinet. These coils do gather a ton of dust over time that reduces their efficiency so you might want to check behind that grill to see how much has accumulated there and carefully remove as much as you can without disturbing the coils too much since they are kind of fragile.
Removing the grill for access is always kind of a challenge but most are held in place by spring clips.

You both sound like you need a qualified factory repairman out there. If there is a blockk of ice on the back wall you have a low charge in the refrigerant system. It is most likely the evaporator or cooling element as you call it which has a five year parts and labor warranty, then parts only for years 6-12. Here is the link to the factory locator site. http://www.subzero.com/locator/locator.aspx?type=0&zip=02030 or call 800-222-7820.

It has a refrigerant charge port on it. I sounds as though it has a small leak and has lost freon. I recommend that you call an expert. If you have a good friend in the heat and air business, sometimes they can help you. Otherwise call a refrigerator expert. hope this helps.
