Question about Maytag MBR2258XES Stainless Steel
Refrig and freezer warm. Found evaporator frozen like a iceberg. Removed food and unplugged refrigerator. Cleared evaporator drain. Restarted unit - cool in freezer and refrig after 24 hours but not cold. Have set on coldest setting. What gives?
I had a similiar problem with mine..it ended up being the defroster board..it seems to kak out every 3 yrs..mine was under the temperature control panel..it was in a white box inder the cover..good luck.

Frost on the coils won't allow air to pass to the fresh food section, thus resulting in insufficient cooling. To eliminate this problem, you will have to get a new adaptive defrost timer ( small board ), and a defrost heater assembly.

I can tell you if it can be fixed by you or if you need service. Just answer a few questions as we go through this. Pull away from wall and remove the lower panel. Feel top of compressor and see if too hot to keep your hand there or cool. Let me know if freezer fan and fan below are running. Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.

Welcome to Fixya,
This is one of the most common problems in most of the refrigeration appliances. What's going on here is that the condensate drain hole in the freezer gets plugged with ice. Once this happens, all the frost melted off the evaporator during subsequent defrost cycles can no longer drain and so spreads out on the freezer and dribbles down and also chokes other components.
